Position Type: Full-Time, At-Will

Reports To: Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Tucson Diocesan Council Board of Directors

Important: This is an at-will position, which may be terminated by either party at any time, with or without cause or notice, subject to applicable law.

Position Summary

The Executive Director serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the St. Vincent de Paul of Southern Arizona - Tucson Council, responsible for leading the organization s operations, strategic partnerships, financial stewardship, and mission execution. Operating under the authority of a separate Board of Directors, the Executive Director ensures mission alignment, legal compliance, and effective program execution across all Council activities.

Core

Responsibilities
  • Governance & Leadership
    • Serve as a non-voting member of the Board of Directors and ex-officio member of all Standing Committees.
    • Execute all deeds, mortgages, bonds, contracts, and other legal documents on behalf of the Corporation.
    • Enter into leases, contracts, and cooperative agreements within Board-approved limits and fiscal authority.
    • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws, as well as internal governance policies and procedures.
  • Personnel Management
    • Hire, supervise, and dismiss employees; define roles and responsibilities.
    • Establish employee compensation based on performance, budget constraints, and policy guidelines.
    • Establish and maintain internal reporting structures for financial and accounting staff that ensure a direct, confidential, and protected line of communication to the Treasurer for the reporting of financial risks, internal control deficiencies, and integrity issues.
    • Foster a collaborative, mission-driven workplace culture.
  • Financial Oversight
    • Prepare the annual budget in conjunction with the Treasurer for Board approval.
    • Authorize non-budgeted expenditures up to Board-defined thresholds.
    • Designate financial depositories and manage account signatories per Board-established procedures.
    • Guarantee that all deeds, contracts, financial instruments, and other corporate commitments executed on behalf of the Corporation comply with and adhere to all Board-approved financial authorization thresholds, signing authorities, expenditure controls, Board resolutions, and the limitations imposed by the Articles of Incorporation.
  • Strategic Partnerships
    • Develop and manage joint ventures and collaborative partnerships with external agencies.
    • Represent the Council in community, interagency, and public forums.
  • Fundraising & Resource Development
    • Lead all fundraising efforts, including grant writing, donor cultivation, and stewardship strategies to support Council programs and sustainability.
    • Pursue grant opportunities and oversee stewardship of awarded funds.
Qualifications
  • Proven executive leadership experience in nonprofit or mission-driven organizations.
  • Demonstrated success in fundraising, grant writing, and donor engagement.
  • Strong financial acumen and budget management skills.
  • Ability to build strategic partnerships and manage complex operations.
  • Commitment to transparency, accountability, and collaborative governance.
  • Familiarity with nonprofit law, employment practices, and fiduciary responsibility.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the Vincentian charism, the spirituality of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, and the Catholic identity of the organization.
  • Membership in the Society of St. Vincent de Paul is preferred; non-members must be willing to become familiar with and support the Society s mission, values, and Catholic foundations.
