Building Maintenance Worker

The Building Maintenance Worker will be responsible for performing unskilled and semi-skilled maintenance and repair cobrantly associated with buildings, equipment, grounds and related tribal facilities.

• Perform semi‑skilled and manual work involving building maintenance, minor carpentry, painting, mechanical, plumbing, heating and air conditioning, grounds maintenance or custodial projects.
• Routine maintenance of electrical systems: maintain and repair lighting fixtures and switches; replace motors, switches, motion sensors, timers, photocells, fuses, thermostats, bulbs and ballasts.
• Routine oven maintenance of plumbing systems: install/repair fixtures and components; clear water lines, drains and toilets; repair leaks; replace faucets, traps and disposals.
• Routine maintenance of heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems: clean or replace filters and replace parts as needed.
• Span building maintenance or construction projects: remove, repair and replace floor or ceiling tile; repair doors and hardware; replace windows, doors and glass panes; construct or assemble tables, cabinets, shelving or furniture.
• General manual tasks to support departments or tribal projects: erect signs and flags; set up rooms and areas for meetings or events; lift or move equipment, furniture and heavy materials; load, transport and unload equipment and materials.
• Follow safety procedures, use safety equipment and monitor the work environment to ensure safety of employees and others: place safety cones, markers and signs to alert employees or citizens of work areas, wet floors and potential hazards; lock and secure chemical storage areas.
• Perform other duties of a similar nature or level as requested by supervisor or director.

• Hand tools, power tools and materials used in all facets of building maintenance and construction work.
• Occupational hazards and safety precautions.
• Yaqui culture, customs, resources and traditions, or willingness to learn.

• Techniques of electrical, plumbing, mechanical and general heating and cooling equipment maintenance and minor repair work.
• Exercise care in the use of chemicals used in building maintenance.
• Follow verbal and written instructions.
• Operate powered equipment.
• Lift or move objects up to 75 pounds.
• Work outside in varying weather conditions.
• Operate a variety of office equipment, including a computer and related software applications.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with co‑workers, supervisors, Council members and the public. Ability to exchange or convey information and receive verbal and written work instructions.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED and at least six (6) months of experience in general building maintenance.

Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred; knowledge of Yaqui language an asset but not required.

Must possess Breton a valid Arizona Driver’s License.

• Incumbent must work non‑traditional hours, nights and weekends.
• Must have a current Level 1 Arizona Clearance Card or be able to obtain one within ninety (90) days of hire. Failure to maintain a current Level 1 Clearance Card will result in termination.
