Role DescriptionThis is a full-time, on-site role based in Tucson, AZ, for a Deputy Public Defender with the Pascua Yaqui Tribe. The Deputy Public Defender will provide legal defense to individuals charged with criminal offenses, ensure fair representation in court, and offer legal assistance throughout the judicial process. This role involves conducting research, preparing legal documents, consulting clients, and strategizing defense plans while ensuring compliance with applicable tribal, state, and federal laws.
Qualifications- Possess strong knowledge and experience in Law and Criminal Law.
- Demonstrated expertise in Criminal Defense and Courts operations.
- Experience providing Legal Assistance with a focus on client advocacy.
- Strong written, oral communication, and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a legal framework that includes tribal, federal, and state jurisdictions.
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and licensure to practice law in the state of Arizona.
- Familiarity with tribal law and the ability to work collaboratively within a tribal community are highly desirable.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple cases in a fast-paced legal environment.
