Legal Counsel – Hudbay Minerals U.S. Business Unit
Job Title: Legal Counsel
Reports To: Executive Director of External Affairs and Legal
Location: Tucson, AZ
Job Type: Full-time, Regular
Hudbay (TSX, NYSE: HBM) is a copper‑focused mining company with operations in Canada, Peru and the United States. The U.S. Business Unit includes the Copper World project (Arizona) and the Mason project (Nevada). Responsibilities- Assist with all legal issues related to the U.S. Business Unit, including the Copper World and Mason projects.
- Draft, review and negotiate various types of commercial and real‑property agreements.
- Effectively manage litigation related to the U.S. Business Unit, including selection of external counsel and strategic oversight.
- Support permitting efforts by advising on legal standards and administrative procedures, including management of administrative appeals.
- Develop strategies for pursuing specific legislative and regulatory outcomes, working with outside teams of lawyers, consultants and lobbyists.
- Participate and represent the company at professional association and public meeting activities.
- Monitor the effect of proposed changes to laws and regulations and their impact on the ABU and its operations.
- Provide legal support for acquisitions, leases, property tax review, mining/millsite claim staking and maintenance.
- Support other U.S. Business Unit departments by providing legal advice and procuring outside expertise when required.
- Ensure effective corporate governance through the implementation of policies and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory and permitting obligations.
- Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA‑accredited law school.
- License to practice law in at least one U.S. state; preferred admission to the Arizona bar or willingness to obtain it.
- Minimum 3‑5 years of experience with legal project operations and management within a company or law firm.
- Interest in mining or other related experience.
- Substantive experience in corporate law, environmental law, public lands, administrative law, real estate, construction law and/or commercial litigation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal relationship skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Docs/Sheets.
- Ability to influence and drive change across diverse stakeholders.

- Regular lifting requirements: up to 10 lb. frequently, up to 25 lb. frequently, up to 50 lb. occasionally.
