Senior Paralegal (Family & Criminal Law) — Tucson, AZ
Mulembo Law PLLC | Full-time (Non-exempt/hourly) | In-office (Tucson)
Mulembo Law PLLC is hiring a Senior Paralegal to support a busy criminal and family law practice. This role is for a seasoned professional who values a structured practice, clear accountability, and consistent compliance—especially around scope/UPL boundaries and client communications.
Compensation: $27–$35/hour DOE, plus bonuses, plus additional bilingual Spanish differential based on verified proficiency and job-related use.
Who this role IS a fit for- Are a senior paralegal who executes with precision—drafting, deadlines, filings, service, and follow-through are second nature
- Prefer defined roles, written SOPs, and a team that runs on clear priorities
- Communicate professionally and calmly, especially in high-conflict family/criminal matters
- Appreciate a clear leadership structure where workflow is coordinated to reduce conflicting directives
- Take pride in supporting clients effectively while staying within appropriate non-attorney scope
This role may not be the best match if you strongly prefer a “looser” environment where priorities shift informally, roles frequently blur, or processes vary depending on the day.
Professional Standards (Scope & Workflow)We’re clear about these because they protect clients, staff, and the firm:
- UPL / scope boundaries:
You will not give legal advice, set strategy, or negotiate outcomes. When clients ask legal questions, you’ll escalate to attorney direction promptly and document appropriately. - Chain of command:
Priorities and workflow are managed through the designated supervisor (Operations Manager/Lead/Attorney). If priorities conflict, you pause and clarify before proceeding. - Professional communication:
Respectful, accurate, and consistent client communication. No over promising—only information that is appropriate and approved. - Process discipline:
We use SOPs, templates, checklists, and file standards. If you see a better way, we welcome improvements through the proper channel—then we implement updates as a team. - Deadline integrity:
Strong calendaring, proactive follow-up, and early flagging of issues are expected.
- Confidentiality is non-negotiable. You handle sensitive client information with discretion at all times.
- Accuracy matters. We’d rather you ask a clarifying question than guess or assume.
- Timekeeping must be complete and accurate. Your time entries must be timely, specific, and reflect the work performed.
- Overtime requires prior approval. If workload is trending toward overtime, we flag it early and align on priorities.
- Ownership and integrity. We take responsibility for outcomes, share credit, communicate early when something may slip, and solve problems as a team.
- Draft and finalize pleadings, motions, discovery, disclosures, and subpoenas (attorney review/approval as required)
- Independently manage deadlines, filings, service, hearing coordination, and client communications within defined scope
- Support hearing/trial prep (exhibits, witness coordination, timelines, binders)
- Maintain clean, consistent case systems; strengthen templates and SOPs
- Mentor junior staff as needed; support operational consistency
- 4+ years paralegal experience (family and/or criminal strongly preferred)
- Strong drafting, calendaring, and case management skills
- Mature judgment, discretion, and a compliance mindset
- Spanish is a plus (differential available)
- Three BCBS PPO plan options, plus vision and dental
- 401(k)
- All federal holidays paid
- Paid winter leave over the holidays, plus additional PTO
- Free parking
