Schedule: Full-time 40 hours a week (Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm)

Under the direction of the Human Resources Director or the Operations Manager, the Payroll Administrator is responsible for managing the payroll processing system for the Diocese of Tucson and affiliated organizations. Responsibilities include facilitating payroll processing across all locations, providing HR support, ensuring data integrity, and maintaining compliance with diocesan and legal requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Support the Diocese of Tucson’s spiritual and pastoral mission.
- Abide by Catholic principles in professional and private life, demonstrating adherence to Catholic moral strictures.
- Manage the payroll process in the Diocese of Tucson and affiliated organizations; ensure processing is timely and consistent; train processors as needed.
- Ensure integrity of payroll data; interact with location payroll processors to ensure adherence to diocesan and legal requirements.
- Maintain payroll information at all locations in accordance with legal requirements.
- Provide guidance and assistance to payroll processors as necessary.
- Keep management updated on processing delays or potential issues.
- Maintain effective communication with payroll processors at all locations; answer inquiries regarding pay or payroll.
- Maintain confidentiality on all HR and payroll matters.
- Type reports, documents, and other correspondence as needed.
- Prepare payroll processing as necessary.
- Conduct new hire orientation and payroll onboarding as needed.
- Provide administrative support to the HR department as necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requires coordination and manual dexterity; normal mental and visual ability; ability to lift as required in a normal office environment.
Basic Qualifications- A working knowledge of, and a strong commitment to the mission of fostering lay leadership in the Catholic Church; must also be a practicing Roman Catholic in full communion with the Church.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills.
- Exercise courtesy to employees, parishioners, and the public.
- Self‑starter; well organized; able to perform multiple tasks simultaneously; works with a sense of urgency.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team; punctual; ability to travel locally; weekend and overtime work may be required.
- Proficiency in computer technology: word processing, databases, spreadsheets; minimum typing skill of 50 wpm.
- Professional bearing; clean and neat personal appearance.
- Must successfully pass background, criminal history, and credit history checks.
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or Public Administration from an accredited institution and minimum of two years’ experience as a practicing payroll professional.
- Or an associate degree and minimum of four years’ experience as a practicing payroll professional.
- Or have minimum of six years’ experience as a practicing payroll professional.
Skills and Abilities
- Bi‑lingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
