Compensation: $103,000 – $162,000 per year + up to 10% Annual Incentive Bonus

OverviewWheeler Staffing Partners is seeking an experienced Laboratory Director for a full-time, onsite leadership opportunity in Tucson, AZ
. This role oversees all aspects of laboratory operations within an acute care environment, ensuring the highest standards of quality, safety, and compliance.
The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise, proven supervisory experience, and the ability to lead teams in delivering reliable, timely, and accurate diagnostic testing that supports exceptional patient care.
Responsibilities- Provide strategic leadership and daily operational oversight for all areas of laboratory services.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and accreditation requirements, including CLIA and CAP.
- Manage the department’s annual operating and capital budgets.
- Oversee staffing functions, including hiring, scheduling, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions as needed.
- Maintain quality assurance and performance improvement programs to ensure optimal laboratory operations.
- Collaborate with physicians, clinicians, and hospital leadership to ensure laboratory services meet clinical needs.
- Support implementation of new technologies, instrumentation, and laboratory information systems.
- Monitor and improve workflow efficiency, turnaround times, and customer satisfaction.
- Ensure laboratory practices are aligned with patient safety, compliance, and organizational goals.
Education:
- Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or a related Health Science Specialty (e.g., Clinical Laboratory Science, Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Biochemistry). Must meet CLIA qualifications for a General Supervisor.
- Preferred: Master’s Degree in Allied Health, Healthcare Management, Health Administration, or Business Administration.
Experience:
- Required: Minimum of 5 years of progressive supervisory experience in a hospital or acute care facility.
- Preferred: Previous experience as a Laboratory Director with oversight of staffing, budgeting, compliance, and quality management.
Certifications / Licensure:
- Required: Registered or registry eligible with an approved certifying agency:
- ASCP (American Society for Clinical Pathology)
- NCA (National Credentialing Agency for Laboratory Personnel)
- AMT (American Medical Technologists)
- Or equivalent certification
- Licensure: State licensure required where applicable. (Some states require a specific lab supervisor or technologist license in addition to national certification.)
- Strong leadership and team development skills
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving ability
- In-depth knowledge of laboratory operations and regulatory standards
- Effective communication and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams
- Proven ability to manage budgets, resources, and staff effectively
