General Summary

The Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Treatment Specialist functions as the provider of substance use disorder treatment services for members of the organization. In this capacity the incumbent is responsible for providing a variety of substance use treatment outpatient services to members with mental illness and addiction disorders. The SUD Specialist will work in conjunction with assigned team members to provide a continuum of substance use disorder services designed to aid in the member’s recovery goals.

Job Responsibilities
  • Maintain confidentiality of records relating to member’s treatment.
  • Assess members for risk of harm to self and others.
  • Assess members for substance use history, readiness to change, and level of care recommendations.
  • Complete substance use disorder assessments, comprehensive intake assessments, and other assessments as deemed clinically necessary.
  • Collect information about members through interviews, observation or assessments.
  • Counsel members individually or in group sessions, to assist in overcoming dependencies, adjusting to life or making changes.
  • Guide members in the development of skills or strategies for dealing with their problems.
  • Develop and implement individualized recovery-oriented treatment and crisis plans based on clinical experience and knowledge.
  • Maintain member-related paperwork, including federal- and state-mandated forms, member diagnostic records, and progress notes.
  • Collaborate with other staff members to coordinate member care and develop treatment plans.
  • Refer members to community resources or to specialists, as necessary.
  • Conduct community outreach to members, as well as visit members in detox centers, hospitals, and other facilities to complete recovery and crisis plans.
  • Act as member’s advocate to coordinate required services or to resolve emergency problems in crisis situations.
  • Counsel family members to assist them in understanding, dealing with or supporting members.
  • Meet with families, probation officers, police, or other interested parties to exchange necessary information during the treatment process.
  • Attend interdisciplinary team meetings to collaborate with member’s treatment team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or necessary as they relate to the general nature of the position.
Qualifications
  • Education – Bachelor’s degree in counseling or related field preferred. High school Diploma required.
  • Experience – Four (4) years of behavioral health experience and One (1) year of specialized substance abuse training required.
Regulatory
  • Minimum 18 years of age.
  • Arizona Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card (must possess upon hire and maintain throughout employment).
  • CPR, First Aid & AED certification, if required (must possess upon hire and maintain throughout employment).
  • Valid Driver’s License, 39-month Motor Vehicle Report, proof of vehicle registration and liability insurance that meet company insurance requirements, if required.
  • Negative TB test result, if required (Employer provides).
