Surgical Tech IV Open Heart PRN Days Position Summary

Assists the surgical team to provide patient care for assigned patients under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse. Demonstrates advanced knowledge of physical and technical requirements of surgical intervention: highly complex surgical cases/specialty resources. Acts as a resource person regarding instrumentation requirements, availability, and set up. Able and willing to troubleshoot. Demonstrates advanced knowledge of anatomy and physiology. Ability to scrub more than three specialties proficiently.

Willingness to assist circulator and takes initiative to ensure availability of necessary equipment. Expert in chosen specialty area; performs all specialty procedures independently, is identified as a resource person for more than 1 specialty. Acts as preceptor to actively train new staff and participate in the orientation process, offering performance feedback to management. Responsible for maintaining effective communication skills. Participates in monitoring and maintaining resources in specific department.

Understands and contributes to the vision/mission and goals of the department.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Level 1

Assist the surgical team to provide patient care for assigned patients under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse before, during, and after surgery.

Demonstrate advanced knowledge of physical and technical requirements of surgical intervention.

Demonstrate preparedness for surgical procedures and anticipate supplies and equipment needed by utilizing surgeon's preference card.

Review operation of needed equipment for procedures.

Review anatomy and physiology involved.

Place equipment and supplies in the operating room and arrange instruments according to preference cards.

Use proper technique for scrubbing, gowning, gloving, and draping.

Assist with proper positioning of patient.
