Position HighlightsThe Department of Speech, Language, & Hearing Sciences at the University of Arizona is seeking an open‑rank tenured or tenure‑eligible faculty member in medical speech‑language pathology or audiology who will contribute to the department’s research, teaching, and service missions. This is a 9‑month (academic) position to begin in August 2026, with rank commensurate with experience.
Responsibilities include scholarship, teaching, and service. Inclusion of person‑centered approaches to scholarship, teaching, and service is preferred, along with a publication record of high‑impact research and a strong, sustainable funding record appropriate to the level of appointment.
The department seeks faculty with expertise in medical speech‑language pathology or audiology (e.g., dysphagia, cognitive communication disorders, auditory physiology, cochlear implants). Applicants with transdisciplinary research in speech, language, hearing, and vestibular sciences such as AI, data informatics, and research design are welcome. Research that addresses needs of a wide demographic breadth is preferred.
The Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences is renowned for its clinical training programs in Audiology and Speech‑Language Pathology and its active doctoral program. The department includes 30 faculty, 104 graduate students (MS, AuD, PhD), and 208 undergraduate students.

Duties & ResponsibilitiesThe workload in the department includes typically:
- 40% scholarly activity/research
- 40% teaching
- 20% service
- Establish a successful research program that advances knowledge in Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences.
- Maintain a consistent record of peer‑reviewed publications and presentations.
- Pursue extramural funding.
- Mentor undergraduate, graduate, and post‑doctoral fellows from diverse backgrounds.
- Teach courses at undergraduate and graduate levels.
- Provide evidence‑based instruction fostering critical thinking and independent learning.
- Develop new courses as assigned.
- Provide graduate advising.
- Work collegially with students and peers.
- Participate on departmental and university committees.
- Participate in student recruitment, admission, and retention.
- Serve on national and international scientific, professional, or governmental committees.
- Engage in professional groups related to communication disorders.
- PhD in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences (SLHS) or related field.
- Expertise in one or more areas of specialization in speech, swallowing, language, hearing, or vestibular sciences.
- Record of scholarly works, including peer‑reviewed publications and presentations commensurate with appointment level.
- High‑impact research and grant funding record commensurate with appointment level.
- Clinical credential (CCC) in speech‑language pathology or audiology.
- Demonstrated mentorship experience commensurate with appointment level.
- Interest and ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience teaching at a higher education setting.
- Inclusion of person‑centered approaches to scholarship, teaching, and service.
- Research area in a medical specialty of Speech, Language, and Hearing such as dysphagia, TBI, dementia, cleft palate, adult motor speech disorders, cochlear implants, amplification, auditory physiology, pediatric audiology, or psychoacoustics.
