Job Summary:

The Arizona Department of Public Safety is seeking a motivated professional for our Evidence Technician position. in the Tucson area. Under general supervision, the Evidence Technician is accountable for preserving the chain-of-custody and security of hazardous/non-hazardous evidence and non evidential property received from law enforcement personnel. Receives, logs, packages, stores, inventories, issues and assists in the release or disposal of adjudicated materials.

Releases, documents and issues evidence for the purpose of performing laboratory tests or providing testimony in court. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires One (1) year of stockroom, warehouse, or public contact experience; or one (1) year of experience working for a law enforcement agency; or any combination totaling one (1) year.
  • Must have a valid Arizona driver's license.
  • Ability to work irregular hours, holidays, weekends, call-out and overtime.
  • Ability to move packages weighing up to 50 pounds each, in compliance with OSHA regulations.
  • Ability to bend, stretch, stoop, reach and climb (stairs or stepladders).
  • Ability to perform tasks in a work area subject to unpleasant odors and temperatures of up to 120 degrees.
  • Must provide a DNA sample for the staff database.
  • Must successfully complete the examination process.
  • Progression to the next pay level/step requires an overall performance rating of at least "Standard" in the last 12 months.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

Applicants must complete an examination process. A polygraph and background investigation are required for successful applicants. DPS supports a drug-free work environment through pre-employment drug testing. If this position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job to conduct State business, then the following requirements apply:
Driver’s License Requirements. All newly hired State employees are subject to and must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).
