What you will do
  • Account for wholesale energy purchases and sales made within an energy market.
  • Investigate customer disputes over market data.
  • Identify data irregularities that need to be addressed within a tight timeframe and work with Market Operator to resolve discrepancies.
  • Create ad‑hoc reports for customers and internal departments.
  • Identify process and procedure improvements to strengthen or improve data integrity and efficiency.
  • Keep current and maintain an active role in market activities and regulations.

  • Monetize and track transactions and evaluate billing terms in contracts.
What you bring
  • BS/BA or Master’s degree and at least 3 years of related experience, or equivalent combination.
  • Accounting and Utility Market experience a plus.

Position Description

The Energy Settlements group accounts for transmission and wholesale energy purchases and sales, oversees the AP/AR function for these transactions, prepares journal entries, reconciles accounts and performs financial analysis, evaluates market performance daily, and reports to regulatory agencies. Additional duties include monetizing and tracking transactions, evaluating billing terms, and serving as the subject‑matter expert for all settlements functions.

Energy Settlement Analyst II
  • Collect and analyze market data for reporting.
  • Identify and suggest process improvement changes in IT systems and work processes.
  • Develop an understanding of ACC, FERC, DOE, SEC and Market Operator rules and regulations.
  • Evaluate new rules and regulations affecting energy transactions and participate in implementation.
  • Oversee a small project or phase of a larger project.
  • Take initiative to add to functional knowledge and demonstrate proficiency.
  • Ensure all payments are made in a timely manner and track outstanding receivables.
  • Perform accounting functions including journal entry preparation.
Senior Energy Settlement Analyst
  • Strong analytical skills; primary responsibility for complex research, analysis and compliance.
  • Research, draw conclusions and make recommendations.
  • Curiosity and desire to understand processes and how they relate to other processes.
  • Communicate status of projects and programs; exercise judgment in elevation of issues.
  • Perform complex accounting functions including preparation/review of journal entries, GAAP research, and analysis of financial data.
  • Understand ACC, FERC, DOE, SEC and Market Operator regulations.
  • Prepare or review financial and operational reports required by regulatory agencies.
  • Provide research and analysis related to feasibility and cost/benefit of contracts and strategies for pricing and retail marketing.
  • Interact with departments on billing and accounting issues and reporting related to market transactions.
  • Assist with implementation of improvements or modifications to systems and procedures.
  • Oversee multiple projects, deliver them with minimal guidance.
  • Understand business drivers and deliver solutions that meet business needs.
  • Identify and communicate barriers to timely completion and suggest solutions.
  • Recommend best practices for effectiveness.
  • Take ownership of data; draft and implement validation methodology for global accuracy.
  • Coordinate resolution of problems affecting professional and economical completion of work.
