Early Career Mineral Processing Engineer

Job Description

Our Earth & Environment Team is seeking a full-time Early Career Mineral Processing Engineer to work out of our Lakewood, CO, South Jordan, Utah, or Tucson, Arizona office locations. Tasks may include basic assistance with process development, research, design, analysis, concept development, and construction of mineral processing plants for the recovery of various commodities including copper and other base metals, gold, silver, diamond, potash, phosphate, iron ore, REE, critical and other industrial minerals.

Generates accurate and concise documentation regarding assigned aspects of the project. Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.

• Support a variety of engineering tasks with the goal of developing technical, social, and ethical skills.
• Assist with project research, and preliminary design calculations and analysis.
• Support preparation of final design plans, special provisions, and cost estimates.
• Assist in collecting and maintaining project documentation.
• Complete training on assigned tasks.
• Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
• Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

• Occasional travel may be required depending on project‑specific requirements.

• Degree in Chemical, Metallurgical, or Mineral Process Engineering with an anticipated graduation date no later than May 2026.
• 0 to 1 years of relevant post‑education experience, early career engineers may be considered.
• Demonstrated interest in extractive metallurgical process engineering and have a strong desire to advance skills related to WSP’s work and projects.
• Excellent research skills with analytical mindset.
• Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non‑engineering audience.
• Proficient self‑leadership with attention to detail, multi‑tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
• Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
• Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
• Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
• Ability to work schedules conductive to project‑specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
• Authorization to work in the United States.

• Engineer in Training Certification, or ability to obtain EIT within a year of hire.
• Prior internship related to the degree of study and the specific engineering discipline, desired, but not required.
• A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.
• Experience in process design, material and energy balances, Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), cost estimation (CAPEX/OPEX), capital budgeting (ROI/IRR/NPV).
• Exposure to a wide range of process operations that may include crushing, grinding, screening, hydro classification, air classification, gravity concentration, magnetic separation, dense media separation, sensor‑based sorting, flotation, leaching, heap leaching, pressure oxidation, solvent extraction, electrowinning, thickening, clarification, filtration, drying, mixing, feeding, pumping, bulk solids handling and pneumatic conveying.
