A well-established and nationally recognized geotechnical and materials engineering firm is seeking a qualified Special Inspector to join its Tucson, Arizona office. This position offers the opportunity to work on diverse commercial, industrial, infrastructure, and public works projects throughout the region.
The ideal candidate will possess strong technical knowledge, field experience, and ICC certifications relevant to structural and reinforced concrete inspections.
Position OverviewThe Special Inspector will perform field inspections and testing to verify compliance with project specifications, applicable building codes, and industry standards. This role requires close coordination with contractors, engineers, and project managers to ensure quality control and code compliance.
Key Responsibilities- Perform special inspections in accordance with IBC requirements
- Conduct reinforced concrete inspections including placement, formwork, rebar, and post-installed anchors
- Perform structural steel inspections including bolting and welding (as certified)
- Monitor and document field testing activities
- Prepare detailed daily field reports and inspection documentation
- Communicate inspection findings with project teams and clients
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and company procedures
- ICC Reinforced Concrete Special Inspector
- ICC Structural Steel and Bolting Special Inspector (preferred)
- ICC Structural Welding Special Inspector (preferred)
- ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I
- NICET (Soils, Concrete, or Construction Materials Testing)
- ATTI (American Traffic Safety Services Association) certifications (if applicable to scope)
- Radiation Safety Certification (for nuclear density gauge use)
- 3+ years of special inspection and/or construction materials testing experience
- Strong understanding of IBC, ACI, ASTM, and related standards
- Ability to read and interpret construction documents and specifications
- Experience working on commercial, infrastructure, industrial, or public sector projects
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
