In the Materials Engineering Department, which functions within the Mechanical Products Team, this mechanical engineering position focuses on mechanical testing and fixture design to support development, design, and failure analysis activities for a wide range of product applications.
Work will include critical thinking to solve challenging problems, careful attention to detail on procedures, testing, analysis, and documentation, and collaboration with design engineers, material engineers, and subject‑matter experts.
What You Will Do- Conduct hands‑on mechanical testing using a variety of laboratory techniques to determine material properties and design limitations.
- Develop test plans and set up procedures for unique hardware configurations.
- Assess materials for conformance to specifications.
- Evaluate parts and hardware relative to structural analyses and conformance to design requirements.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team.
- Pay careful attention to detail in all work.
- Perform lifting up to 28 lbs as required.
- Manage and coordinate a wide variety of analysis tasks within schedule requirements.
- Bachelor of Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM); minimum 2 years of relevant experience (or 6 years in lieu of a degree).
- Experience with Instron or MTS load frames.
- Fundamental principles of mechanical engineering with comprehensive knowledge in mechanics of materials.
- Hands‑on mechanical problem‑solving abilities.
- Familiarity with stress/structural analysis.
- Proficiency with instrumentation and data acquisition equipment.
- Experience with LabVIEW, MATLAB, and PTC Creo.
- Knowledge of ASTM test methods for mechanical testing.
- General material testing and analysis experience in a laboratory.
- Strong technical writing skills for concise reports.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, planning, and time‑management skills.
- ABET accreditation (preferred but not required).
- Salary range: $68,900 – $131,100 USD.
