Job Summary

Operations Quality has an opening for a Factory Quality Engineer who will interface with factory teams supporting production, first article inspections, creating and maintaining work and inspection instructions, and preparation for audits. The position is based in Tucson, AZ and requires onsite presence. The quality engineer responsibilities include but are not limited to the following.

What You Will Do
  • Verify product and process compliance with respect to contractual, technical, industry, AS9100 Quality Management System (QMS) requirements and internal policies.
  • Regularly generate and publish Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ) metrics.
  • Facilitate and lead cross‑functional team in failure analysis, Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) investigations, including identifying non‑conformances, providing solutions, tracking issues to closure and leading Corrective Action Boards (CAB).
  • Ensure identification, physical control, and disposition of non‑conforming material and facilitate Material Review Board (MRB) when necessary.
  • Support work instruction development and maintenance activities by reviewing work instructions, test instructions, auditing processes, and assuring configuration management.
  • Develop and maintain inspection instructions, ensuring they meet the technical data package requirements and production needs.
  • Regularly interface with Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA).
  • Conduct daily status meetings with factory support, factory management, hourly employees, and internal stakeholders to manage issues.
  • Conduct weekly meetings to reduce cost of poor quality and facilitate timely red rack dispositions.
Qualifications You Must Have
  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and five (5) years of experience in related Quality, Operations, Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Experience supporting design and/or manufacturing process.
  • Manufacturing process experience in assembly, inspection, or test.
  • Experience reading/interpreting engineering drawings, work instructions, process disciplines and tool control.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance prior to start date; U.S. citizenship required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an ATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives) clearance prior to start date.
Qualifications We Value
  • Experience with ISO 9001 and/or AS9100 Quality Management System.
  • Existing DoD Secret Clearance.
  • Experience with AS9102 First Article Inspection Requirements.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, negotiating and difficult conversation experience, and ability to work well with factory management, hourly employees, and internal stakeholders.
  • Experience leading cross‑functional teams in auditing processes and product/process improvements in the factory or at suppliers.
  • Experience with AS9145 - Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP).
  • Six Sigma or ASQ Certification.
  • Data analysis skills; development and usage of actionable metrics.
