Operations Quality has an opening for a Principal Factory Quality Engineer who will interface with the factory teams supporting production, first‑article inspections, creating/maintaining work/inspection instructions, and preparation for audits. The position is based in Tucson, AZ and requires onsite presence. The quality engineer responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
What You Will Do:- Identify and manage risk in the manufacturing process
- Support production, first‑article inspections, create/maintain work/inspection instructions, and prepare for audits (internal, Enterprise, Customer, etc.)
- Verify product and process compliance with respect to contractual, technical, industry, AS9100 Quality Management System (QMS) requirements and internal policies
- Regular interface with DCMA (Product Sales, process audits, Product Configuration audits)
- Daily status meetings with the factory support, factory management, hourly employees, and internal stakeholders to manage issues, and weekly meetings to help reduce cost of poor quality
- Primary quality representative for assigned value streams or processes
- Training, coaching, and mentoring newer quality engineers
- Lead factory‑wide strategic efforts that meet the quality department goals
- Facilitate and lead cross‑functional team in failure analysis, Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) investigations, including identifying non‑conformances, providing solutions, tracking issues to closure and leading Corrective Action Boards (CAB)
- Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and 8 years of relevant experience
- Experience supporting design and/or manufacturing process
- Experience reviewing engineering drawings, work instructions, Bill of Materials (BOMs), consumable materials control, process disciplines and tool control
- Experience with AS9102 First Article Inspection Requirements
- Experience with AS9100 and/or ISO 9001 quality management systems
- Experience in RCCA and Continuous Improvement methods
- The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance; U.S. citizenship is required
- ASQ CQE Certification
- Strong interpersonal skills with experience negotiating, having difficult conversations, and working well with factory management, hourly employees, and internal stakeholders
- Competency and experience in a relevant technical discipline with understanding of engineering principles and design analysis techniques
- PRISM, RCAS, Business Warehouse, Virtual Business System (VBS), CMES experience
- Motivated and self‑starting team player who achieves results and continuously strives for improvement
- Confident with decision making with limited information
- Critical thinking skills
- Lead without authority
- Effective communication skills
- Experience working in a dynamic environment that requires prioritization and flexibility to support competing requirements
- SME in APQP methods (including PFMEA, Control Plan, FAI, SPC) with demonstrated ability to mentor cross‑functional team
- SME in interpreting and ensuring compliance to TDP requirements and QMS requirements
- Demonstrated leadership in RCCA and Continuous Improvement projects
- Proficient in MRB and manufacturing lien processes
