Job Description

TEP is seeking a Transmission & Distribution (T&D) Line Maintenance Engineer to support the reliability and safety of overhead and underground line assets. The role includes conducting field testing to support maintenance and asset management programs, analyzing operational and historical data to identify trends, and performing root‑cause and failure analyses. The engineer will develop and refine maintenance procedures, testing protocols, and reliability strategies that prioritize safe work practices and compliance with industry standards.

Additional responsibilities include providing technical guidance to field crews, assisting with troubleshooting, and leading initiatives that improve equipment performance, reduce risk, and enhance overall system reliability and safety.

Key Responsibilities – Maintenance Engineer (I, II, III, IV, Sr Lead, Sr Tech)
  • Perform studies, evaluations, and reporting of outage/failure data for Transmission and Distribution systems.
  • Develop and maintain system outage information databases and provide detailed analysis of outage/failure causes and effects.
  • Investigate and recommend remedial action for substandard operational/design characteristics of system components.
  • Make maintenance and asset replacement recommendations to meet reliability standards within established circuit performance improvement programs.
  • Conduct regular asset condition assessments of TEP’s transmission and distribution system.
  • Provide recommendations for the maintenance and replacement of transmission and distribution assets based on asset condition assessment results.
  • Evaluate and develop existing programs and create new programs for the strategic replacement of these assets.
  • Conduct field investigations of failed and problematic equipment and work closely with T&D field personnel to acquire the evidence needed to perform comprehensive reliability studies.
Key Responsibilities – Associate Engineer (Associate, Senior or Lead)
  • Organize and direct material evaluations, including reporting and recommending failed material solutions, and support other technical personnel in coordinating the final assessment of failed construction materials.
  • Develop or establish major project requirements for both regulated and non‑regulated business activities, and provide technical support to field crews for material standards compliance, compatibility, and resolution of equipment problems.
  • Support the review of product vendors, material specifications, and designs.
  • Organize and administer independent projects and critical standards issues for the group.
  • Provide technical evaluation of incoming material for trial inventory, vendor bid evaluation, alliance review, and material specification evaluation.
  • Make recommendations and decisions for standards issues, proactively evaluating methods to reduce costs, increase reliability, and improve safety for T&D operations.
What You Bring
  • Minimum for Level 1 T&D Maintenance Engineer: B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering with an emphasis in power‑related courses, or B.S. degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in structural courses, and less than two years of professional engineering experience. Requires close supervision and detailed instruction for tasks and expected results.
  • Minimum for Associate Engineer:
    High school diploma or GED plus 5 years of experience as a Journeyman or experience in engineering system design, construction, maintenance, operations, or related fields.
