TEP is seeking a Transmission & Distribution (T&D) Line Maintenance Engineer to support the reliability and safety of overhead and underground line assets. This role includes conducting field testing to support maintenance and asset management programs, analyzing operational and historical data to identify trends, and performing root cause and failure analyses. The engineer will develop and refine maintenance procedures, testing protocols, and reliability strategies that prioritize safe work practices and compliance with industry standards.
Additional responsibilities include providing technical guidance to field crews, assisting with troubleshooting, and leading initiatives that improve equipment performance, reduce risk, and enhance overall system reliability and safety.
- Perform studies, evaluations, and reporting of outage/failure data for Transmission and Distribution systems.
- Provide development of system outage information databases and detailed analysis of outage/failure causes and effects.
- Provide investigation and recommendations for remedial action of substandard operational/design characteristics of system components.
- Make maintenance and asset replacement recommendations to meet reliability standards within established circuit performance improvement programs.
- Completes a regular asset condition assessment of TEP’s transmission and distribution system.
- Makes recommendations for the maintenance and replacement of transmission and distribution assets, largely based on the results of asset condition assessment.
- Additionally, evaluates/continues existing programs and develops new programs for the strategic replacement of these assets.
- Conducts field investigation of failed and problem equipment, and works closely with Transmission and Distribution field personnel in acquiring failed equipment evidence needed to perform comprehensive reliability studies.
- Organize and direct material evaluations including the reporting and recommendation of failed material solutions. Provide support to other technical personnel in the section in coordinating final assessment of failed construction materials.
- Develop or establish major project requirements for both regulated and non-regulated business activities. Provide technical support to field crews for material standards compliance, compatibility, and resolution of equipment problems.
- Provide support in reviewing product vendors, material specifications, and designs.
- Provide organization and administration of independent projects and critical standards issues for the group.
- Provide technical evaluation of incoming material for trial inventory, and provide vendor bid evaluation, alliance review, and material specification evaluation.
- Provide recommendations and decisions for standards issues, and are proactive in evaluating methods to reduce costs, increase reliability, and improve safety for T&D Operations.
- Minimums for level 1 T&D Maintenance Engineer: B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering with an emphasis in power related classes or a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in structural related classes and less than two years’ professional experience in an engineering role. Requires close supervision and detailed instruction for tasks and expected results.
- Minimums for Associate Engineer: a High school diploma or GED, plus 5 years of experience as a Journeyman or experience in engineering system design, construction, maintenance, operations, or related experience.
