With an independent view, we bring clarity and rigour to help project teams work more effectively, raise delivery standards, and maintain schedules and budgets.
At Bedrock-Recruiting, we pride ourselves on being able to identify and implement industry-leading project processes and methodologies.
Description:
A Project Engineer in our industry is an engineering professional who manages the planning and execution of technical projects, ensuring that all aspects are delivered successfully from inception through completion. In the context of mining, construction, and energy projects, the Project Engineer coordinates multidisciplinary efforts – from initial feasibility and design, through procurement and construction, to commissioning – to meet project goals on schedule and within budget.
Responsibilities:- Project Planning: Develop comprehensive project plans that outline scope, deliverables, timelines, and resources for engineering projects.
- Cost Estimation & Budget Management: Prepare detailed cost estimates and project budgets.
- Coordination & Communication: Act as the central point of contact coordinating between various teams – engineering design, field construction crews, procurement, quality control, and external contractors.
- Technical Oversight: Provide technical support and oversight throughout the project lifecycle. Help troubleshoot technical problems on-site, bringing in discipline experts (civil, mechanical, electrical, etc.) as needed to devise effective solutions.
- Schedule Management: Establish key project milestones and ensure that the project stays on track to meet them. Proactively identify schedule risks or delays and work with the team to re‑sequence work or add resources to recover lost time.
- Quality Assurance: Implement and enforce quality control and assurance processes. This means ensuring that all work (engineering calculations, materials, construction workmanship) meets the required standards and specifications.
- Safety & Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that all project activities adhere to safety regulations and company safety policies.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain thorough documentation throughout the project – including meeting minutes, decision logs, updated drawings, and change.
- Contract Management: Oversee contractor and subcontractor performance when portions of work are outsourced.
- Project Commissioning & Handover: Coordinate commissioning activities (testing of equipment, trial runs, performance verification) for completed facilities or systems to ensure they meet design intent and client requirements.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (such as Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, or Mining Engineering) or a related technical field. A post‑graduate qualification in engineering or business (MS, MBA) can be a plus but is not required.
- 3+ years of experience in project engineering, project management, or a related role in the mining, construction, or energy sector. Strong project management skills and knowledge of project management methodologies.
- Solid technical background in your engineering discipline with the ability to read and understand engineering drawings, plans, and specifications.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with industry‑specific regulations and standards (for example, mining regulations, building codes, environmental regulations relevant to the project).
- Willingness to travel to project sites as needed.
- Commitment to safety and quality in all aspects of work. We look for engineers who inherently value doing the job right and safely – this means an eye for detail, a habit of double‑checking critical calculations or plans, and encouraging a work culture where safety and quality are never compromised for speed.
