Job DescriptionThe Project Engineer is the technical source of information for the project and should have a thorough knowledge of the construction documents, subcontracts, and purchase orders. The role involves responding to questions about drawings, specifications, shop drawings, and change orders, maintaining professional relationships with owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers, and may include supervising and training Field Engineers. This position includes three steps (I, II, Senior), providing progression based on skill and experience.
Job SummaryProject Engineer serves as the primary technical contact, ensuring that construction documents are correctly interpreted and applied. Responsibilities include procurement, logistics, cost control, documentation, and coordination across all disciplines.
Key Responsibilities- Demonstrate understanding of the Project Management Plan (scope, procurement, environmental, time, financial, quality, safety, and risk management) and change management process.
- Develop procurement schedules, integrate with the CPM schedule, procure necessary materials and equipment, coordinate submittals with other trades, and review all submittals for compliance.
- Understand the prime contract, subcontracts, purchase orders, and contract drawings; administer budgeting and cost controlling processes to keep the project within budget.
- Maintain “As‑built” contract documents; compile close‑out requirements including operation and maintenance manuals, warranties, and other job‑specific items.
- May participate in concrete form design, equipment selection, and takeoffs for concrete, asphalt, earthwork, and utilities as required.
- Plan, acquire, develop, and supervise project team members to ensure relentless execution.
- Prepare and maintain quantity reporting mechanisms, coordinate agendas, and prepare minutes for all meetings; manage project logs.
- Prepare and review change orders, including time extensions, and maintain the change order log; distribute documents as required.
- Prevent claims, identify potential claims, quantify, mitigate, and resolve them in a timely manner.
Job Requirements
- Advanced knowledge of construction engineering technology, codes, standards, and in‑depth understanding of interdependence between functional units.
- Four‑year construction‑related degree or equivalent technical training and at least three to four years of similar construction engineering experience.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; demonstrated ability to manage a team of varied disciplines; able to supervise or train Field Engineers if required.
