Pima County Public Library is seeking a community-focused part time Librarian to join the team at the Salazar-Ajo Library. This position delivers front-line public service while developing responsive, evidence-based library programming that reflects the needs and interests of the Ajo community. As the Librarian, you will plan and facilitate programs, support learning and engagement across age groups, and build positive relationships with customers, partners, and volunteers.

The position also coordinates and oversees library volunteers, ensuring meaningful service experiences and alignment with library goals. As assigned, the Librarian serves as Librarian-in-Charge, exercising independent judgment in daily building operations, safety response, and policy interpretation. Work includes evenings and weekends and requires flexibility, initiative, and strong customer-service skills in a small-team environment.

Essential Functions

  • Oversee assigned service area within a library such as youth services or adult services by developing, presenting, and coordinating evidence-based services inclusive of all members of the public including vulnerable populations;
  • In charge of library as assigned including night and weekend shifts;
  • Assist members of the public by finding and relaying library and community resource information including providing assistance in using the library’s collections, catalog, technology, and equipment;
  • Develop, facilitate, and/or present evidence-based educational programs and services, including early literacy programs, community outreach activities, youth advisory boards, and computer and technology instruction in person or virtually;
  • Supervise volunteers and interns by training, scheduling, mentoring and providing partner organizations with performance evaluations;
  • Incorporate and implement public service best practices, including culturally competent community-driven programming, public relations, problem solving, conflict management and complaint resolution;
  • Utilize conflict management skills to de-escalate and address unexpected problems or potentially volatile situations and complete associated documentation;
  • Perform facilities management duties by monitoring and reporting maintenance issues and investigating or resolving operational or technical issues;
  • Participate in or facilitate systemwide committee meetings focused on youth services, adult services or library strategic goals and values and attend relevant continuing education trainings and workshops to incorporate current best practices in a particular service level;
  • Manage, coordinate, and determine priorities of workload, including monitoring levels of resources, establishing timelines, assigning work, monitoring progress, recommending changes and suggestions, writing, reviewing, and editing reports prepared by staff;
  • Responsible for other duties as assigned in support of the overall goals and functions of both the Human Resources Department and Pima County.
