Position: Career and College Counselor - 26/27 SY

Definition

Under general supervision, provides guidance and counseling within the comprehensive prevention curriculum. Works within the CCBG (Comprehensive Competency Based Guidance) curriculum program with all students. Assists with program scheduling and class selection. Provides individual and group counseling programs.

Essential Functions

Provide classroom guidance lessons and small group sessions in conjunction with the site counselors using the career standards and competencies listed in the ASCA National Model; provide career awareness and career exploration lessons to all students, grades 9-12 and also supports 8th graders with the transition to high school; collaborate with caseload counselors to ensure a career planning process for 9-12 students;

delivers guidance lessons and individual planning on career pathways and ECAP; manages educational career action plans (ECAP) lessons; provide resources for teachers to facilitate the integration of career, academic and personal/social standards into both general and CTE curriculum; conduct in-service programs for faculty, parents, and community members around career opportunities; serves as the primary liaison to the Pima JTED to support students in central campus programs;

assists with program scheduling and class selection with a focus on career pathways and post-secondary planning. Support work based learning opportunities including internships as well as various off campus opportunities to promote career awareness; submit monthly data and activity reports to the central JTED office; support CTE teachers with identifying and planning career experiences; support CTE Program Advisory Committees; organize coordinate, plan, and implement college testing;

review test scores with students to ensure they understand how to read and interpret the score; assist with course registration; act as liaison with post-secondary agencies, schools, and programs including all dual enrollment programs; attend professional learning opportunities as appropriate; provide individual crisis counseling and report to Department of Child Services(DCS) as required; participate with other counselors in "fair share" responsibilities when other priorities do not interfere.

  • Ability to effectively communicate with a wide variety of people in varying circumstances.
  • Skill in planning and implementing academic success and lesson plans.
  • Ability to sustain extended work hours.
  • Ability to work alone and as part of a team.
  • Ability to multi-task in an office setting.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Work is performed in an indoor environment. Work requires frequent sitting, repetitive motion, vision to monitor, and may require some lifting.

Qualifications
  • Guidance Counselor certification from the Arizona Department of Education.
  • Experience working within the schools.
  • Arizona Driver's License required for transporting students.
  • Ability to work beyond the contract day.
  • Valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Classroom teaching experience preferred.
  • Experience with career and post-secondary programs.
  • Depending on the needs of the District, some incumbents in this class must be able to demonstrate fluency in both Spanish and English as a condition of employment.
Three Years' Experience As a Professional School Counselor Preferred
