Overview
Provide classroom instruction to probationers and the administration of adult education programs, which includes Adult Basic Education (ABE) and Adult Secondary Education (ASE), to adult probationers and their families, remanded youth, or other at‑risk adults in the community.
Hiring Range: $49,795 - $54,787 Annually

Upon yearly anniversary, 56 hours of sick time accrued, less usage, may be rolled over to vacation time.
Distinguishing CharacteristicsThis is a classified, exempt position that reports to the Probation Education Program Coordinator. The incumbent performs duties under general supervision and has no supervisor responsibilities.
Minimum QualificationsA Bachelor’s Degree in Education, or a closely related field, and two years of work experience teaching adults. Experience must include computer assisted instruction. Or any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education approved by Human Resources.
Preference QualificationsWork experience teaching adults, adult offenders, working with substance abusers, and the ability to work nights.

Essential Duties & Functions- Participates in the development of adult education program goals and objectives.
- Administers programs for the purpose of teaching adult education curriculum to adult offenders placed on probation.
- Coordinates, supervises and participates in all aspects of ABE/ASE instruction during class time.
- Directs and participates in the development of college and career readiness programs for ABE/ASE classes.
- Delivers instruction to students using a variety of in‑person, hyflex or asynchronous/online methods, adjusting teaching styles to meet the diverse student population.
- Adjust learning options for individuals with special needs, physical and/or psychological differences.
- Compiles individual student lessons on educational software programs, maintains and updates lessons, monitors and reports student progress, and provides intervention as needed.
- Coordinates with staff and participates in daily activities essential to the completion of program objectives, such as students obtaining GED’s, and achieving college and career gains.
- Coordinates and conducts student intake and orientation.
- Develops and prepares instructional materials, lessons, and classroom presentations and teaches educational materials to students particularly in the areas of GED, and college and career readiness skills.
- Conducts ongoing data analysis regarding students’ educational gains and testing information for the purpose of improving instruction.
- Conducts evaluations on the effectiveness of educational materials and education programs.
- Reviews, evaluates, and recommends the use of resource materials and other teaching aids.
- Prepares monthly attendance reports on each defendant for officers or case managers.
- Teaches Life Skills classes monthly
- Must have knowledge of the principles and practices of adult education, learning styles, and effective teaching techniques.
- Must have knowledge of the concept of twenty first century education, hybrid classes, curriculum, and performance standards.
- Must have the skills for proficient case and/or project management.
- Must have computer skills in Microsoft Office software and skills to navigate the internet as a research and teaching tool.
