Position: Community Outreach Professional II (Extended Temporary Employment)

Overview

Position Highlights The Pima County Cooperative Extension is seeking an enthusiastic and community-minded individual to fill the position of Community Outreach Professional II. This position will manage the senior physical activity training program for The Garden Kitchen (GK) program. The incumbent will coordinate partner relationships and trainings, create physical activity materials for seniors, and implement training for professionals and programming for participants.

A high degree of professionalism, organization, initiative, collaboration, and ability to follow instructions while using good judgment and problem-solving skills is expected. The candidate must be capable of performing various tasks independently and under the direction of a supervisor.

Type Extended Temporary Employment (ETE) position that will end August 2026. Duties & Responsibilities
  • Program Creation
    :
    Design, deliver, and continuously refine a multi-component Train-the-Trainer program that builds long-term capacity within a minimum of four partner senior-housing organizations for senior physical activity opportunities. Create and implement evidence-based training that accommodates all ability levels while fostering community connection and supporting lifelong healthy-aging habits. Engage senior communities in program design. Develop customized toolkits for each partner organization, including guidance for purchasing needed supplies and equipment.

    Produce asynchronous training materials, such as videos, handouts, and step-by-step guides, to ensure partners can independently train new staff after program discontinuation. Provide on-site demonstrations for staff with senior residents to reinforce skills, model program delivery, and strengthen staff confidence in leading physical activity programming. Maintain collaborative relationships with site leadership and staff, provide ongoing technical assistance, and assist sites in identifying funding sources and implementation strategies that ensure long-term program success.
  • Administration
    :
    Conduct evaluation activities such as tracking participation, gathering feedback, and summarizing outcomes. Use findings to refine trainings, materials, and program delivery. Produce monthly reports for supervisor and funders on progress in the program.
  • Additional Outreach & Program Support
    :
    Support additional community-based programming as needed, including activities in The Garden Kitchen community garden, maintenance of commercial kitchen facilities, and assistance with related outreach initiatives. Collaborate with internal teams to support broader community engagement efforts aligned with organizational objectives.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively with multiple groups/individuals.
  • Skill in public speaking and presenting information to various groups.
  • Fluent Spanish speaking ability.
  • Ability to create physical activity program training materials, knowledge of evidence-based principles.
  • Ability to carry out trainings and physical activity classes for a variety of ability levels.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Three years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in physical activity programming.
  • Prior experience working with senior populations.
  • Background with non-profit programming and program coordination.
