Special Ed - Inclusion Support Teacher - 25/26 SY

Definition and responsibilities for the Inclusion Support Teacher role at Sunnyside Unified School District.

Responsibilities
  • Sets up a cooperative teaching arrangement that uses a variety of styles to fit student needs, resources, time, and teacher skill for a dynamic learning experience prior to the student’s introduction and throughout their time in the environment
  • Develop Individualized Education Plan (IEP) for students; maintain compliance with all Federal Regulations and State Policies regarding the education of students with disabilities; attends to requirements detailed in education plans such as 504 plans, Transition plans, IFSPs or IEPs in coordination with the special education team
  • Meets with team members and solicits the support of the school principal, program specialist, and special education director for materials and resources
  • Ensure appropriate accommodations to the curriculum, lessons and learning environment; provide instruction in regular, resource, or small classroom settings; modify lessons, materials, and tests per the student’s education plan
  • Design engaging classroom activities and differentiated lessons so that all students may access the curriculum
  • Formally and informally assess student learning to create a comprehensive learning program
  • Set high expectations suitable for students; assessments may be differentiated; administer alternate assessments as mandated by law when students cannot participate in regular state testing
  • Work collaboratively with general education teachers, instructional coaches, grade-level teams, and other staff to plan, share student work and ensure instruction aligns with curriculum and standards
  • Build partnerships with families and maintain open communication regarding student progress and feedback
  • Administer first aid and assistance to medically fragile children as assigned (when needed for safety and care)
  • Direct instructional assistants, volunteers, and/or student supports to provide an effective school program and address student needs
  • Instruct students to improve academics, interpersonal and daily living skills; manage student behavior to provide a safe learning environment
  • Report incidents (e.g., fights, suspected abuse) to maintain safety and compliance
  • Participate in meetings to convey/gather information necessary to perform functions
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient operation of the work unit
Knowledge, Skills and Other Characteristics
  • Knowledge: Read manuals, write documents in prescribed formats, present information to others, analyze situations, and apply knowledge of child development, bilingual (English/Spanish) helpful, relevant codes and laws, school system
  • Skills: Analytical abilities, applying assessment instruments, accurate record-keeping, promoting a child-centered environment, verbal and written communication
  • Ability: Schedule activities, work with others in varied circumstances, analyze data, operate equipment, work with diverse individuals, problem-solve, interpret guidelines independently
  • Specific Abilities: Adapt curriculum, respond to changing priorities, address learning styles, assess outcomes, communicate with students, maintain climate of respect, classroom management, confidentiality, deadlines, instructional planning, teamwork, use of technology, handling detailed data, managing interruptions
  • Responsibilities: Work under limited supervision, lead/coordinate others, utilize resources from other units
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a job-related area
  • Valid Arizona Teaching Certificate in Special Education
  • Certain endorsements may be required for specific positions
  • Valid driver’s license and dependable transportation
  • Valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
