Position Highlights

The School of Journalism at the University of Arizona invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-eligible appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor of Practice, specializing in video/audio editing and production across various platforms (television, social, digital) and media (news, documentary, sports). The successful candidate will primarily focus on teaching video and audio editing courses as well as courses on television production, podcast production and multimedia story production at the University of Arizona School of Journalism.

The School of Journalism, founded in 1951, offers a theoretical and practical curriculum, including rigorous training in writing, reporting, and ethics for about 200 undergraduate students and 25 master’s students. The School offers bachelor’s degrees in Journalism and the Studies of Global Media, and master’s degrees in Journalism, Bilingual Journalism, and the Studies of Global Media. It also offers a Ph.D. minor in Journalism and multiple dual master’s degrees with other disciplines.

Candidates should have significant media experience preferably in video storytelling utilizing video, audio, text, graphics, data, and/or social media platforms. Candidates should be enthusiastic about teaching and collaborating with other faculty and be innovative, creative self-starters. They should also ideally have at least two years of experience teaching video/audio editing and production skills to other professionals or students.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Teach three classes per semester in an academic year.
  • Work with students to plan, direct, edit, and publish audio and video work in the School of Journalism’s media outlets and enter it into contests.
  • Network with professional editors and producers to place stories in outlets in Arizona and beyond.
  • Assist students in making connections for internships and jobs.
  • Perform service, outreach, and leadership within the School of Journalism, which may include collaborating and working with tenure-track and practice professors, leading various programs or centers within the school.
  • Perform service, outreach, and leadership within the College of Social and Behavioral Science, the University of Arizona, and beyond.
