- This role ensures that the advising community is equipped with the necessary knowledge, tools, and support to foster undergraduate student success.
- The specialist leads training initiatives, manages training for key advising technologies, produces advising publications, and serves as a liaison with institutional partners to keep training content aligned with university policy and practices.
Senior Academic Advising Training & Development Specialist is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining professional development programming for academic advisors and advising managers at the University of Arizona.
- Develop and facilitate synchronous and asynchronous training activities for academic advisors covering policies, processes, curriculum, and student resources, incorporating student development theory.
- Design training on Trellis, UAccess, and Advising Central Dashboard, applying assessment principles to ensure effective outcomes.
- Write and refresh business process guides for technology tools such as Trellis, UAccess, and Advising Central Dashboard, ensuring comprehensive training programs.
- Teach and train complex principles, theories, and concepts to advising peers, including student development theory, program development, and competencies of relational, conceptual, and informational components of academic advising.
- Collaborate with campus partners at all levels to identify new or amended policies, processes, curriculum, and resources for training and development.
- Collect and analyze student success data to identify training needs and share findings with Academic Advising leadership.
- Resolve complex problems and questions from the advising community regarding academic policy, process, curriculum, and services.
- Curate and distribute the monthly advisor newsletter via Mailchimp, ensuring content quality.
- Participate in developing and delivering new programs such as annual academic advising conferences or summits.
- Strong understanding of academic advising competencies.
- Effective teaching skills to produce and deliver training materials.
- Knowledge of student development theory to promote advising approaches addressing retention and completion.
- Program development skills for comprehensive advisor training programs.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Master's Degree preferred.
- Experience with MS Office Suite, Adobe Creative Cloud, UAccess, Trellis, Advising Central, and Brightspace/D2L.
- Experience with CRM such as Sales Force and SIS such as People Soft or Banner.
- 3-5 years of academic advising experience.
- 3-5 years teaching experience.
