Position: Curriculum & Instruction Supervisor (Childcare Center)

Overview

The Curriculum & Instruction Supervisor is primarily responsible for supporting teachers in implementing research-based strategies and curricula, with emphasis on Yoeme language, history, and cultural immersive curricula. In addition, this position will supervise the curriculum team in designing and developing criteria for new curriculum programs and instructional practices for the Itom Ili Tosapo Am Remtituane Early Childhood Learning Center.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate the curriculum team in designing and developing criteria for existing and new curricular programs and instructional practices consistent with the center’s vision and mission.
  • Uses, modifies, and streamlines curriculum alignment forms and processes for the curriculum team, including curricular and pedagogical development and improvement.
  • Implements and reports the status of childcare center curriculum initiatives with collaboration, support and guidance provided by management and Core operating group.
  • Serves as a curriculum resource and/or liaison to childcare center teachers, administration, community members, tribal council, and other key stakeholders and ensures the Center’s goals and objectives are clearly articulated, understood, developed, and implemented using collaborative processes and problem-solving techniques when appropriate.
  • Able to write and edit Yoeme language, history, and cultural content using precise language.
  • Create an approved substitute log and/or fill in the classroom when staff is absent; collaborating weekly on setting school’s strategic direction. Ensure all classroom volunteers follow the required Pascua Yaqui Tribe – Human Resources volunteer protocols.
  • Collaboratively plan Yoeme language, history, and cultural professional development for the childcare center teachers and staff.
  • Observe teachers and provide meaningful feedback, coaching, including lesson planning processes.
  • Assist and equip teachers with resources and skills to align their instruction with strong teaching methods, student-positive redirection, standards, student data, including learning targets, instructional strategies, learning tasks, and assessment techniques.
  • Collaborate with appropriate service providers (Centered Spirit) to create student behavioral plans to work with students appropriately.
  • Increase teacher effectiveness by improving the quality of teaching and learning through ongoing support to teachers. Develop academic support programs to meet students’ and teacher’s needs.
  • Monitors the effectiveness and efficiency of childcare center curriculum, instruction, and its implementation.
  • Prepare and/or review reports and make recommendations for classroom observations and curriculum outcomes. Evaluate for continuous improvement; selecting instructional materials to meet student learning needs.
  • Supervise staff, including prioritizing and assigning work, conducting performance evaluations, ensuring staff is trained, and employees follow pedagogical best practices and tribal and center-based policies and procedures, maintaining a happy, healthy, and safe work environment, and making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations.
  • Work with Curriculum Builders Team to continue to develop, maintain Yaqui-centric curricular documents based on systematic review and analysis. Work with Manager and Core Team to develop a Policy Review Board/Committee.
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with childcare center teachers and social services management staff.
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature or level as requested by the manager or director.
  • Lead the center’s multi-tiered system of support (MTSS) process and team meetings to foster a positive culture and a solution-based approach and proactively works with colleagues about children’s needs and successes to ensure integrated support.
  • Lead the quarterly Parent/Family Child Development feedback conferences and maintain open and consistent communication with families about their children’s developmental progress, academic progress, health success, and needs.
