Overview
Naph Care is hiring a Dental Assistant to join our team of medical professionals at the Pima County Detention Center in Tucson, Arizona
. This is a Part Time 10 hours per week position.
As a Correctional Dental Assistant
, you will work alongside correctional officers and other dental professionals to provide dental care to incarcerated individuals in residence. This is a unique position in a controlled environment where security is a top priority and you can make a difference for a diverse population with complex medical and dental needs.
- New grads are encouraged to apply – we provide training in the field of correctional healthcare.
- Prepare patients for dental procedures, assist with treatments, and maintain patient dental records while protecting patients’ rights, dignity, and health.
- Coordinate dental services and assist the Dentist with patient care, instruments, supplies, documentation, and the function of the dental department.
- Assist the Dentist during treatment by providing instruments, materials, retraction or suction.
- Ensure all dental equipment is properly maintained and the dental suite is clean and well-stocked.
- Sterilize and disinfect equipment and tools.
- Assist in triage, dental sick call requests, scheduling appointments, managing patient records, and performing administrative tasks.
- Explain dental procedures and oral hygiene practices to patients.
- Take and develop x-rays and assist with dental laboratory functions.
- Completion of a one- or two-year dental assistant program at a vocational school or community college.
- Maintain proper training and unrestricted certification as a Dental Assistant.
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Be able to obtain CPR certification.
- Able to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information.
- Display integrity and professionalism; adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
- Must pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening.
Must be able to stand for long periods, lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds), bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk long distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR while maintaining balance and endurance during a shift.
