Summary OfJob Description
The Payroll Coordinator performs all payroll functions from start to finish in an in‑house environment. Compiles, reconciles, maintains, and provides payroll information.
Qualifications /Minimum Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required;
Bachelor’s Degree preferred. - Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card / Background and Criminal History Clearance.
- 3+ years of recent experience in payroll, human resources, or a related field.
- Knowledge and ability to use HRIS or payroll accounting systems.
- Experience using MS Word, Excel, Access, and Google Suite.
- Experience with Paylocity preferred.
- Experience maintaining confidentiality and discretion.
- Organizational experience and ability to work under pressure.
- Experience handling and prioritizing multiple tasks and meeting all deadlines.
- Excellent data entry skills.
- Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills.
- Effective verbal, listening, and written communication skills.
- Effective organizational, stress, and time‑management skills.
- Demonstrates a sense of urgency and ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently or as a team member.
- Prepares, verifies and distributes bi‑weekly, multi‑state payroll.
- Prepares required government reports, retirement, IRS, W‑2’s etc. and files them according to prescribed deadlines.
- Ensures compliance with payroll laws and regulations.
- Works with employees to explain and review payroll discrepancies.
- Reviews payroll schedule and proactively schedules around holidays and changes.
- Performs quarterly and year‑end close processes.
- Saves and maintains HSA, workers comp, PERA, and 401(k) contributions.
- Leads research of ad‑hoc accounting questions related to compensation.
- Communicates proactively with management and stakeholders regarding progress, issues, risks, and resolution plans.
- Supports internal and external payroll audits.
- Assists with special reports and projects as required.
- Maintains current knowledge of compensation accounting principles.
- Identifies and drives process improvements consistent with industry best practices.
- Handles sensitive information confidentially.
- Performs various tasks related to financial close deadlines and participates in audits as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Capacity to sit for prolonged periods, direct others, make independent judgments, keep accurate records, meet deadlines, communicate with individuals across diverse backgrounds.
- Physical abilities: reaching/handling, verbal communication, visual acuity.
- Proficiency with modern office practices, procedures, and equipment.
