Care Specialist

Job Overview

Life Care Specialist position is a response to the American opioid epidemic and aims to provide opioid safety education, mental wellness skills and pain management techniques to patients in inpatient and outpatient settings.

• Work with patients to teach prescription opioid safety practices.
• Provide behavioral pain management strategies, including the Community Resiliency Model, Progressive Muscle Relaxation, and diaphragmatic breathing techniques.
• Assess the risk of substance misuse using the Opioid Risk Tool and communicate increased risk to the patient’s medical team.
• Provide goal‑oriented, individualized therapeutic interventions for patients and caregivers.
• Offer additional mental health resources and referrals.
• Conduct patient follow‑ups and provide additional resources when needed.
• Manage the research portion of the LCS program: administer surveys, maintain data spreadsheets, and perform basic data analysis.

• Background in psychology, mental health, social work, public health, or a related healthcare field.
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team.
• Knowledge of hospital etiquette and rules.
• Excellent organizational skills.
