Job Description
Wood is currently seeking a Senior Fire Protection Engineer for our Tucker, Georgia office (Greenville, SC is an acceptable option). This role focuses on design and analysis of industrial fire protection and suppression systems, performing calculations, preparing construction drawings, developing specifications, and assessing existing equipment for new or retrofit industrial plants. NICET Certification Level 3 or higher is strongly preferred. This is a hybrid role requiring 3 days per week on site.

The RoleThe Senior Fire Protection Engineer leads the design and implementation of fire protection and life‑safety systems, including suppression, detection, and alarm technologies. This role collaborates with architects, engineers, and clients to ensure compliance with fire codes and safety standards, identifies hazards, recommends mitigation strategies, supports proposal development, mentors junior staff, and performs quality assurance, site inspections, and documentation using tools such as Revit.

- Design fire protection and life‑safety systems including water‑based fire pumps, tanks, hydrants, fixed monitors, wet pipe, dry pipe, standpipe, fire alarm, life safety, and gaseous systems.
- Collaborate and consult with architects, engineers, and clients on building codes, fire codes, and related standards.
- Identify hazards, mitigation techniques, and recommend solutions, materials, and equipment.
- Support business development, client expansion, and proposal development for the fire protection engineering business.
- Bring technical design expertise, research and develop solutions to engineering challenges, and validate applied work.
- Act as technical leader on large complex projects and lead technical portions of client meetings.
- Review complete project documents for conformity and quality assurance.
- Develop strong relationships with clients, customers, officials, contractors, and others.
- Provide technical design packages within schedule and budget constraints.
- Support proposal generation (FEL 1‑3, detailed design).
- Perform production work with Revit.
- Review junior engineers’ work and provide development guidance.
- Review equipment and material submittals for adequacy and regulatory compliance.
- Perform site visits when required and assist with construction RFIs after document issuance.

- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering or equivalent technical training.
- Minimum of 10 years evaluating and designing fire protection systems or related building and fire code consultation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Advanced skills in Revit (preferred).
- Familiarity with the International Fire Code, NFPA standards, and United Facilities Criteria.
