** STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
** Incumbent will create and maintain a safe, positive learning environment to ensure the holistic development of each student and staff member through cultural, social, spiritual, physical and academic experience. Incumbent will support the Bureau of Indian Education’s mission, which is to provide high quality education opportunities from early childhood through life while considering a tribe’s need for cultural and economic well-being.

In performing this mission, the BIE takes into account the spiritual, mental, physical, and cultural aspects of school-aged children within their family and tribal community. To meet its trust responsibility to Indian Tribes, BIE works to strengthen education opportunities for American Indian students to be successful and competitive globally; to enhance student participation in their tribal communities; and support tribes in nation-building, in development of the next generation of tribal leaders.

Responsibilities:

Serves in a supportive capacity to professional educators at a paraprofessional level, assisting in the delivery of educational activities.
• Participates in the preparation of lesson plans.  
• Participates in the reviewing of concepts previously introduced by the teacher as well as implementing supplemental activities to reinforce previously learned concepts.  
• Under the direct supervision of a professional educator, instructs small groups or individual students.  
• Supervises classroom and playground recreational activities as directed.  
• During the absence of the teacher, maintains discipline and control of students, conducts instruction and reviews of previous lessons, conducts drill sessions, and other related activities according to prepared lesson plans.  
• Assists the teacher by reviewing student work in progress, giving aid and direction to students as needed.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

* • Associate degree in education or related field with (1) year related experience.  
• Completion of (60) semester hours in education or related field with (1) year related experience.  
• Bachelor's degree (or higher) in education or related field.

Experience should be in the same line of work or one of which is basically similar to the education position the employee is being placed in.
