The Machine Shop Assistant position supports API’s mission by effectively assisting machine shop operators in the production of machined parts. The role involves setting up machines, operating equipment, maintaining machines, moving materials and parts around the shop, cleaning and organizing the work area, managing inventory, and following safety protocols and guidelines.

A typical day
  • Maintain coolant in machines.
  • Check and fill lube and oil reservoirs.
  • Check air filters on all machines and chillers.
  • Responsible for overall cleanliness and organization of the machine shop.
  • Assist with chip removal and disposal at various machines.
  • Keep the exteriors of all machines clean.
  • Organize and clean toolboxes/ workstations.
  • Use hand power tools as needed, including deburring parts as requested.
  • Fabricate, assemble, or disassemble manufactured products by hand.
  • Maintain organization and cleanliness.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Ideal candidate requires the following:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 1+ years of experience in a machine shop environment.
  • Basic knowledge of machine shop tools and equipment.
  • Familiarity with established safety protocols and guidelines.
We highly prefer the following:
  • Forklift certified.
