Position Purpose
Specialty Assistant Store Manager in Training (SASM-IT) will gain hands‑on experience in the key responsibilities and functions of a Specialty Assistant Store Manager at The Home Depot. The SASM‑IT will undergo a comprehensive training program that includes hands‑on experience, mentorship, and leadership development. During training, they will become familiar with Manager on Duty responsibilities and gain insight into overseeing the Specialty and Pro Departments.
In collaboration with the Store Manager, Assistant Store Managers (ASMs), Home Services, and Pro business partners, they will learn to develop and implement strategies that boost sales, enhance customer service, and drive profitability across Specialty, Pro, and Services businesses. SASM‑ITs are expected to lead by example and uphold all lawful company policies. The training period is up to 6 weeks and will prepare candidates to execute SASM key responsibilities.
- Training and Preparation (50%) – Participate in a structured program covering all aspects of retail store management, including operations, customer service, sales & profitability, and company policies. Demonstrate tactics to support staffing, scheduling, issue resolution, and service needs. Complete all training modules and assessments.
- Customer Experience (15%) – Supervise associates, drive customer service and associate engagement, and resolve customer issues promptly.
- Sales and Productivity (15%) – Collaborate with partners on merchandise placement, stock integrity, and inventory management. Learn to operate store equipment and manage daily financial operations.
- Operations Management (10%) – Perform Opening, Closing, MOD, and other whole‑store responsibilities, enforce company policies, maintain safety compliance, and mitigate shrink.
- Safety (10%) – Ensure self and associates follow all safety and hazmat procedures, and Safety Matters guidelines at all times.

- No direct reports
- Typically requires overnight travel < 5% of the time
- Must continuously stand or walk and regularly lift/handle/carry material or equipment of moderate weight (8–20 pounds)
- Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions are infrequent and not objectionable
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Must be legally permitted to work in the United States
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate and work effectively with cross‑functional teams
- High school diploma and/or GED
- Bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field related to the job
