JobPurpose and Summary
Pharmacy Technicians support our pharmacy teams in delivering operational and service excellence. They are often the first point of contact with patients and customers, ensuring prescriptions are filled promptly, safely, and accurately while providing exceptional service. Technicians work through consistent application of Standard Operating Procedures, best practices, and effective communication, contributing to a safe and inclusive culture where all people feel valued and empowered.
Key Responsibilities- Follow all company SOPs at each workstation to help pharmacists manage and improve patient health.
- Follow pharmacy workflow procedures at each pharmacy workstation (production, pick‑up, drive‑thru, drop‑off) for safe and accurate prescription fulfillment.
- Contribute to positive patient experiences by showing empathy and genuine care, offering immunizations and other services at the register and over the phone, and demonstrating compassionate care by solving or escalating patient problems.
- Complete basic inventory activities as permitted by law and directed by pharmacy leadership, such as putting away medication deliveries, completing cycle counts, returns-to-stocks, and waiting bin inventories.
- Contribute to a high‑performing team, embracing a growth mindset, seeking opportunities to expand clinical and technical knowledge, and remaining flexible for scheduling and business needs.
- Understand and comply with all relevant federal, state, and local laws, regulations, professional standards, and ethical principles, and comply with CVS policies to ensure patient safety and privacy.
- Deliver additional patient health care services (e.g., immunizations, point‑of‑care testing, and voluntarily staffing off‑site clinics) where allowable by law and supported by required training and certification.
- Complete additional licensure and training to obtain Technician Immunizer status.
- Educate patients about the importance of vaccines and refer to the pharmacist‑on‑duty for vaccination questions.
- Monitor for and respond to adverse reactions; report adverse reaction events per public health requirements.
- Review and collect patient information, tracking and documenting for each applicable patient.
- Monitor and manage vaccine supplies.
- Compliance with any state board of pharmacy requirements or laws governing pharmacy practice.
- Minimum age: 16 years, if no state requirement specifies otherwise.
- Minimum education:
high school diploma or equivalent, or active enrollment in high school or a high school equivalency program, if no state requirement specifies otherwise. - State‑level licensure and national certification requirements vary by state.
- Regular and predictable attendance, including nights and weekends.
- Ability to complete required training within designated timeframe.
- Attention and focus: concentrate on a task, pivot quickly between tasks, confirm prescription information and label accuracy.
- Customer service and team orientation: act friendly and helpful, notice and respond to patient reactions.
- Communication skills: use and understand verbal and written communication, active listening.
- Mathematical reasoning: solve problems such as determining tablet counts and days of supply.
- Problem resolution: identify challenging interactions and choose best actions.
- Physical demands: mobility, lifting, reaching, repetitive finger use, precise machine handling, occasional lifts up to 20 lbs.
