CONTRACT TYPE: Fixed-term Contract, Part-time / Attachment, Part-time - 31.5 hours per week [2 week pattern, week 1:35 hours, week 2:28 hours] - until 2 October 2026

PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £ 27,600 - £ 35,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF
THE ROLE BBC Radio Cornwall is looking for a creative and dynamic producer to work across programmes finding and telling the stories people will be talking about.
This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the sound of Cornwall and will involve finding and booking brilliant guests, supporting presenters through breaking news as well as developing original stories that can set the local agenda. Newsreading and social media production shifts will also form part of the role.

You will take on a variety of roles from producing and running live output for Cornwall and Devon, to reading the news and creating social content. You'll generate impactful journalism across platforms, support presenters with engaging material and ensure our coverage truly represents the communities we serve.
The role is at BBC Radio Cornwall and is an office based production job, working a shift pattern across 7 days a week with some early starts and late finishes.
YOUR
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:
As producer working across BBC Radio Cornwall and regional shared programmes, news bulletins and social content, you will play a key role in helping the BBC connect with its audience in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
You'll be setting the daily agenda by finding, researching and briefing presenters, you'll also be providing editorial and production support in the studio.
By preparing and delivering timed bulletins for Cornwall, you'll be working to tight deadlines, maintaining the highest editorial standards.
Your work will drive high impact content across platforms, support presenters with compelling material, and ensure our journalism reflects the communities we serve. By bringing creativity, strong editorial judgment, accuracy and a deep understanding of Cornwall, the Isles of Scilly and the wider region, you will help deliver output that is relevant, trusted and distinctive across Cornwall and the South West.
Liaising closely with other departments in the BBC, to ensure that output material is shared, duplication is avoided, and best practice is upheld.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
Significant recent experience as a journalist, working in a professional capacity with a good knowledge of audio production techniques and news reading.
Live studio production experience.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work across the newsroom in a team and under own initiative.
A positive and tenacious attitude to enable effective story research, setting up case studies for live interviews and recording.
Sound editorial judgment
Effective planning and organising skills, delivering consistently to deadlines and ability to work across several stories at a time.
