Substitute TEAchers at TEA are an integral part of our school! In addition to giving TEAchers time away from the classroom when life throws a curveball, our substitutes also allow our TEAchers to guide our students on multiple-day long field studies, attend professional development opportunities, and to focus on self-care.
InstructionWhen a Substitute TEAcher steps into a classroom, they will join our students on a learning journey that is designed to empower students to be creative problem solvers with a social conscience. If that classroom is in our elementary school, the day may include a hands-on exploration of the natural environment that surrounds our campus while students work on reading, writing and arithmetic fluency.
If that classroom is in our middle or high school, the day may include the construction of a mobile greenhouse on campus while students achieve Common Core, Next Gen Science and National Social Studies standards. Lesson plans will be provided with ample support available from faculty and administrative staff.
Following the lesson plans provided, Substitute TEAchers will help ensure that standards are met while remaining aligned with the school’s mission, vision and values. This may include in-class work, facilitating discussions, or helping lead off-campus field trips!
AssessmentSubstitute TEAchers may be asked to track, document and communicate student performance/achievement in line with lesson plans provided.
CommunicationIt takes a village! We ask that our Substitute TEAchers are proactive in communicating with other faculty and school administration in regards to their needs. For longer-term substitution roles, we ask that Substitute TEAchers be active in communicating with parents via weekly classroom summaries.
ProfessionalismPunctuality is key in addition to fulfilling time-sensitive obligations such as yard duty during snack/lunch breaks. If a student behavior issue arises, Substitute TEAchers must demonstrate a high level of social emotional intelligence while collaborating with our Student Support TEAm. We ask that our Substitute TEAchers model positivity and agree to and abide by the expectations outlined in our Employee Handbook.
