Overview
Upper Valley Medical Center Rehab Associate – PRN (as needed), 8 hour shifts. The Rehab Associate is responsible for financial counseling, informing patients on co-pays and deductibles, and providing financial assistance education to the patient and their family.
Responsibilities- Scheduling, registration (including adding pertinent financial and demographic information), and verifying insurance benefit information.
- Generation of ABN, reviewing orders for compliance, and completion of MSP.
- Obtaining financial/treatment consents, placing ordered PT/OT/SP, and obtaining and tracking pre-certifications and Medicare Plan of Care certifications when applicable.
- Collecting payments for self-pay services and programs.
- Compliance with regulatory requirements and creation of reports and projects essential to the operations and productivity of the rehab department.
- Performing clinical duties as needed and maintaining a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
- Demonstrating self-initiation of projects to meet departmental needs and contributing to the overall effectiveness and efficiency of the department.
- Maintaining customer focus with patience, composure, and compassion; handling ambiguity with change management and strong time management; and demonstrating interpersonal savvy while supporting peer relationships.
- Providing expert functional/technical skills for financial assessment and evaluation of each patient entering the department.
- Explaining hospital financial policies to patients and facilitating payment for the patient’s hospital liability and self-pay services and programs.
The Rehab Associate must maintain excellent customer service standards when communicating with physicians, physician offices, patients, and co-workers, while ensuring patient confidentiality and privacy rights.
Minimum EducationHigh School Diploma / GED
Qualifications and Preferences- Preferred educational qualifications:
Associates Degree in healthcare or related business field - Position-specific testing:
Proficient in Windows-based computer technology, including keyboarding and typing; typing proficiency 30 wpm preferred
- Medical Terminology Certification preferred
- Minimum:
No prior job-related work experience - Preferred: 1–3 years of job-related experience
- Experience in Customer Service, general clerical/office, hospital, medical office/clinic, or insurance company
- Applicable class work may be substituted for previous work experience
- Ability to perform a variety of tasks and adapt to changing assignments
- Effective multi-tasking with frequent interruptions
- Willingness to learn and work with multiple software/hardware products
- Excellent verbal, listening, and written communication skills
- Professional demeanor in stressful situations
- Comfort working with office machinery
- Mathematical aptitude to calculate and estimate patient financial obligations for financial clearance
- Ability to build productive relationships and work as part of a team
- Prefer at least one year of experience in a hospital, medical office/clinic, or insurance company
- Knowledge of third-party collections, registration, billing, and contracts preferred
- Dependable, flexible, and adaptable to change
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality
- Ability to understand basic medical terminology
