Overview

Brown and Caldwell (BC) has an exciting opportunity as Midwest Area Drinking Water Practice Leader to help us grow our portfolio of drinking water clients and projects. The Area Practice Leader (APL) will drive growth in the Drinking Water Practice to support the Midwest Area's strategic goals, lead major drinking water projects, and ensure exceptional client service.

The APL is a key member of the drinking water team, responsible for understanding regional trends and creating technical differentiation while serving as a conduit between the Drinking Water Practice and the Business Unit (BU). The ideal candidate is an established leader in the drinking water industry with strong collaboration skills. The APL collaborates with BC roles including the Regional Practice Lead (RPL), Project Managers, Client Service Managers, and Subject Matter Experts.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and drive Area practice strategy – Collaborate with the RPL, Practice, and BU Leaders to develop drinking water strategy for the Area. Analyze market trends, competition, client needs, and opportunities, aligning with BU and National Practice strategies and prioritizing resources. Use input from Client Service Teams and technical sales to inform the national Drinking Water Practice vision and strategy. Participate in annual Area business planning.
  • Drive external visibility and brand projection within the Area – Lead BC’s brand representation related to the Drinking Water Practice and market. Partner with the RPL, Growth Leaders, and Client Service Managers to incorporate strategic messaging, highlight people, projects, and solutions at conferences, seminars, workshops, client meetings, and to raise team member visibility.
  • Drive business development based on client needs – Coordinate with the RPL, Area operations and growth leads, and Client Service Teams to drive practice growth. Recommend technical resources to engage with clients and raise awareness of resonant solutions.
  • Build capacity for quality delivery in alignment with BU and strategy – Identify Area staffing needs and recruit for the Drinking Water Practice. Coordinate with the Practice to drive talent strategy, including recruiting efforts and ongoing development to support current and future growth. Support enterprise recruiting as needed.
  • Bring technical advantage to the sales process – Participate in go/no-go decisions to stay aligned with strategy and resource priorities. Engage technical resources and standards to identify efficiencies and client-centric solutions. Inform project org charts to build skills and qualifications that support current and future sales and delivery.
Qualifications and Experience
  • B.S. or M.S. in engineering or a related field is required.
  • Professional registration is preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of increasingly responsible professional experience in environmental services or water utility and/or consulting industry is required.
  • Outstanding communication skills, including the ability to communicate clearly and professionally (verbal and written) to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to demonstrate business acumen to guide decisions on assignments of personnel and technical approaches to support business unit growth.
  • Ability to demonstrate experience in guiding technical strategy for a large portfolio of projects and aligning staff to those projects.
  • Up to 30% travel.
Salary, Location, and Travel

Salary range for this position is based on the employee's primary work location and may be adjusted based on skills, experience, and education. Location B:
Salary $160,000 – $219,000.
