Position Overview

SMART Transit Company is seeking a highly organized and technically skilled Bus Video and Telecommunications Coordinator to oversee the deployment, maintenance, and performance of onboard video surveillance systems, radio communications, and telecommunications infrastructure across the bus fleet and transit facilities. This role ensures that SMART’s video and communication systems operate reliably, securely, and in compliance with safety and legal standards.

The Coordinator will serve as the primary liaison between internal departments, vendors, and field technicians, ensuring timely resolution of issues and continuous improvement of system performance.

Key Responsibilities Video Surveillance Systems
  • Manage installation, configuration, and maintenance of onboard bus video systems (e.g., DVRs, cameras, storage).
  • Monitor system health and ensure video data is properly captured, stored, and retrievable for investigations or audits.
  • Coordinate video retrieval requests for incidents, law enforcement, or internal reviews.
  • Ensure compliance with data retention policies and privacy regulations.
Telecommunications & Radio Systems
  • Oversee the operation and maintenance of SMART’s radio communications systems (e.g., VHF/UHF, LTE, VoIP).
  • Support integration of radio systems with CAD/AVL platforms and dispatch operations.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve communication issues affecting field operations or emergency response.
  • Maintain inventory and lifecycle documentation for all telecommunications equipment.
Project Coordination & Vendor Management
  • Coordinate with vendors and contractors for system upgrades, installations, and repairs.
  • Track project milestones, budgets, and deliverables related to video and telecom systems.
  • Ensure vendor compliance with SMART’s technical standards and service level agreements.
Documentation & Reporting
  • Maintain detailed records of system configurations, maintenance logs, and incident reports.
  • Create high-level reports and presentations for leadership on system performance, outages, and improvement plans.
  • Assist in developing technical specifications for RFPs and procurement processes.
Training & Support
  • Provide hands‑on training to field staff and technicians on video and telecom equipment usage and troubleshooting.
  • Develop user guides and SOPs for system operation and maintenance.
  • Serve as a technical resource for internal departments and external partners.
Qualifications Education & Experience
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Information Technology, Electronics, or related field.
  • 3–5 years of experience in video surveillance systems, radio communications, or transit technology.
  • Experience working with public transit or fleet‑based systems, preferred.
Skills & Competencies
  • Strong technical knowledge of video systems (e.g., Axis, Luminator, Angel Trax) and radio technologies.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group including technicians, operators, and leadership.
  • Project management experience and ability to coordinate multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency in documentation, reporting, and training delivery.
Preferred Certifications
  • FCC General Radiotelephone Operator License (GROL) or equivalent.
  • CompTIA Network+, Security+, or similar technical certifications.
  • Vendor‑specific certifications (e.g., Motorola, Cisco, Luminator) are a plus.
