POSITION SUMMARY Responsible for directing, overseeing and coordinating all activities in regard to providing home and/or community-based Occupational Therapy (OT) services to Expert Care clients/recipients. Performing OT evaluations and providing occupational therapy to recipients as scheduled. The Occupational Therapy Supervisor works with all parties involved to ensure that OT services are provided that meets the medical need of the client, as prescribed by a physician, and authorized by a funding agency.
The Occupational Therapy Supervisor ensures that all Expert Care OTRs and OTAs are properly trained and receive appropriate supervision. The Occupational Therapy Supervisor spends at least 75% of their time in the field (maintaining a caseload of 30 recipients to average at least 25 visits per week); providing OT services and supervising OTA/COTA. The Occupational Therapy Supervisor works closely with the Therapy Services Manager;
consulting on clinical best practices to ensure quality services.
- Therapy Services
- Performs therapy assessments of recipient functioning levels, plans short- and long-term goals toward improving/restoring independence and physical/cognitive functioning; implements developed treatment programs, approved by the attending physician.
- Participates in the development and implementation of appropriate policies and procedures per Medicaid and Expert Care guidelines.
- Completes Medicare home modification & equipment justification evaluation and evaluations for guidelines and in-servicing group home staff.
- Staff Oversight
- Participates in recruiting to maintain appropriate staffing levels to provide occupational therapy services based upon recipient location and need.
- Trains occupational therapy staff on use of documentation, both electronic medical record and hard copy. Trains occupational therapy staff on protocol for documentation submission both to Expert Care and the referring organization.
- Provides in-person and telephone supervisory oversight to Occupational Therapy Assistants (OTA & COTA). Reviews all documentation submitted by OTA/COTA. Assists OTA/COTA in treatment plan implementation.
- Reviews all occupational therapy evaluations, progress notes and treatment plans submitted by Occupational Therapists. Suggests interventions, techniques or programs to aid in the recipients’ progress toward the goals indicated in the IPOS.
- Recipient Family Management
- Provides guidance and instruction to recipients/family members and Expert Care staff of developed therapeutic, creative, and self-care procedures/activities; explains adaptive, progressive approaches and compensatory strategies as appropriate.
- Recommend, organize, consults and write letters of medical necessity for recipient equipment as deemed clinically appropriate.
- Conducts functional, cognitive and sensory re-evaluations, as indicated, to assess the need for any revisions in the treatment plan.
- Instructs and familiarizes, as necessary, the recipient and pertinent family members with all other aspects of the total treatment program. Completes Family Training as appropriate with family members/natural supports to ensure maximum benefit and continuation of treatment to enhance daily living skills.
- Quality and Administrative Management
- Maintains adequate clinical documentation and progress notes. Submits all required paperwork in a timely manner according to Expert Care policy.
- Periodically reports to the physician on the recipient’s treatment, response, and progress, and assists the physician in determining any necessary changes in the treatment program.
- Participates in annual Person-Centered Planning meetings and periodic status review meetings to provide insight and update on treatment planning and implementation.
