This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain exposure to a wide range of high-profile construction projects across Metro Detroit at various stages of development. The position focuses on sampling hot mix asphalt (HMA), inspecting concrete reinforcing steel, and performing tests on freshly placed concrete such as slump, air content, and cylinder molding. Additionally, the role involves soil sampling, density evaluations, and observations of deep foundation elements like piles and drilled caissons.
Technicians are expected to complete daily reports using standard printed forms by hand. Necessary training will be provided.
- Sample hot mix asphalt (HMA) for quality control.
- Inspect concrete reinforcing steel for compliance with specifications.
- Perform tests on freshly placed concrete, including slump, air content, and cylinder molding.
- Conduct soil sampling and density evaluations.
- Observe and report on deep foundation elements such as piles and drilled caissons.
- Complete and submit daily reports using standard printed forms.
- Proficiency in materials testing, including soil, aggregate, asphalt, and concrete.
- Experience with OSHA 10 and CMT procedures.
- Familiarity with ACI standards for concrete inspection and density testing.
Skills & Qualifications
- Nice-to-have certifications: ACI, MCA, density, and concrete.
- Must be health and safety conscious.
- Ability to take direction and work cooperatively with clients.
- Must have a reliable personal vehicle and valid driver's license.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to pass drug, background, and reference checks.
- Flexibility with daily work assignments.
- Willingness to work occasional night and/or weekend shifts.
- Ability to lift sixty (60) pounds of equipment.
Work is primarily in the field across the Metro-Detroit area, including Oakland, Wayne, Genesee, Lapeer, and Washtenaw Counties. Projects are commercial in nature, including retail, industrial, and medical buildings. The company offers a supportive environment with low attrition rates and a focus on long-term employment. Technicians have access to state-of-the-art laboratory and field testing equipment for precise materials and geotechnical analysis.
A company vehicle is available if needed, with guidelines in place for its use. There are 26 other technicians on the team, providing a collaborative and experienced work environment.
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Troy, MI.
Pay And BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $18.00 - $25.00/hr.
