Product Engineer I – Carcoustics (Troy, MI)

Job Objective

The Product Engineer Level 1 supports the design, development, and testing of new products within the company’s portfolio. This role works closely with cross‑functional teams—including Process Development, Material Development, Prototyping, and Testing—to learn from senior engineers while contributing to product development activities and collaborating with OEM partners.

Responsibilities
  • Identify customer and company needs and integrate market research into product requirements.
  • Assist in conceptualizing product ideas using CAD software under guidance.
  • Participate in prototype fabrication and testing activities.
  • Evaluate materials, manufacturing processes, and design tolerances for product suitability.
  • Contribute to quantitative assessments of prototypes in line with industry and OEM standards.
  • Analyze existing products for improvement opportunities and update documentation.
  • Help prepare project plans, including technical objectives and cost estimates.
  • Document project progress and communicate updates to stakeholders.
  • Assess the technical and commercial feasibility of product concepts.
  • Collaborate with OEM development teams to understand customer needs.
  • Perform special tasks or projects as assigned by management.
Additional Tasks
  • Support and learn from mentoring activities with interns and students.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
  • Internship or academic project experience in product development preferred.
  • Automotive experience is a plus.
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing processes and materials.
  • Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., CATIA, Solid Works).
  • Exposure to CAE tools is a plus.
  • Proficiency in MS Office; MS Project is a plus.
  • Proactive, eager to learn, creative thinking, curiosity.
  • Strong problem‑solving and communication skills.
  • Team‑oriented mindset.
  • Willingness to travel up to 15% of the time.
Reporting Line

Functional reporting to Senior Product Engineer or Head of Innovation & Advanced Development. The position requires business travel to Howell (MI) at least one day a week to facilitate production team collaboration.
