Advanced Secondary Tool Engineer

Salary: $40.00‑$55.00 • $84,000.00‑$ • $73,200.00‑$
- Provide advanced product and manufacturing design support to IAC manufacturing facilities, product design team, and OEM to assure manufacturing feasibility and embed robust processes into product design from a secondary tool perspective.
- Assist plants in developing RFQ material, conducting quote reviews/vetting, sourcing decisions, and technical discussions with IAC management and OEMs.
- Optimize manufacturing efficiency and quality standards through the implementation of improved processes, materials, methods, and facilities.
- Ensure project execution adheres to safety devices per OSHA, NFPA, ANSI, and IAC standards.
- Manage activities related to tool design, construction, budgeting, and timing of secondary machine/fixture builds for new program launches.
- Provide tooling leadership to project teams to support customer needs.
- Coordinate secondary machine/fixture build activities with suppliers to meet program timing, cost, and quality objectives.
- Champion pre‑production machine run‑offs and approval processes to assure prompt PPAP‑based quoted cycle times and OEE targets.
- Participate in cost negotiations regarding tools and engineering change costs.
- Support pre‑production machine start‑up at IAC manufacturing plants during the PPAP process.
- Provide technical support on troubleshooting existing manufacturing processes and/or product lines to achieve customer quality standards and profitability.
- Travel 20%-30% of time to support IAC plant and supplier locations.
- 4+ years of experience in machine/fixture design, construction/build, and follow‑up for interior trim automotive components (Floor Consoles, Instrument Panels, Hard Trim, or Doors).
- Educational background:
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering (Preferred). - Experience with core secondary operations/processes: heat stake/sonic welding, hot plate/IR welding, punching, edge wrapping, and vacuum forming.
- Strong time‑management and project‑management skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication, proficiency with Microsoft Office and related computer skills.
- Ability to resolve issues quickly and identify and mitigate threats to program objectives.
- Controls experience (Allen‑Bradley and/or Siemens PLC, HMI development with RSView, Factory Talk View, WinCC, Ignition, and legacy automation networks).
- Ability to develop and modify PLC and HMI software using Studio
5000, RSLogix 5000, RSView Studio, etc. - Experience designing, implementing, and troubleshooting machine controls for North American plants, with global support.
- Flexible to work independently away from the office and to collaborate with all levels of the organization.
- Strong negotiation skills for reviewing and establishing tool costs with suppliers and OEM cost analysts.
