THIS IS A TEMPORARY POSITION (9 MONTHS OR LESS) - PAYING $19.00 PER HOUR. EMPLOYMENT STARTS 03/08/2026 THROUGH 10/31/2026.

COLORADO PARKS AND WILDLIFE (CPW)

Description Of Job

This is an unarmed law enforcement position (Title 33 Commission). Limited Commission Ranger positions involve extensive customer service and public contact while enforcing Colorado Parks and Wildlife laws and regulations.

Specific Duties
  • Perform boat inspector and decontaminator responsibilities according to state regulations and standard protocols at Trinidad Port of Entry near Trinidad, Colorado.
  • The site lead boat inspector will provide on-the-job training to inspection staff, create schedules, and ensure all shifts are covered during operational hours.
  • Verify accurate timekeeping records for payroll purposes and recommend hiring/firing of employees to the Invasive Species Specialist.
  • Perform quality control assessments monthly to ensure staff follow standardized protocols, ensure data entry accuracy, and maintain inventory of supplies.
  • Perform basic maintenance and troubleshooting on power washer/decontamination units; provide public outreach on aquatic invasive species.
  • Early morning, evening, and weekend work is required.
  • As a Limited Commission Ranger, duties may include enforcing CPW rules, resolving visitor complaints, completing reports, appearing in court, answering questions about aquatic invasive species, and other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Must have a current & valid driver’s license required for operating a state vehicle and acceptable driving record (verification through background check).
  • Federal law prohibits illegal drug use; if you used marijuana within the past 12 months or any illegal drugs within 36 months, you will be disqualified.
  • Felony or certain misdemeanors may disqualify you; successful completion of a comprehensive background check is required.
  • Must be available to work varying shifts including evenings, weekends, and holidays; may involve inclement weather.
  • Outdoor physical work requiring climbing in/out of vessels/vehicles and under trailers; uniform items may be provided with some items purchased at employee expense.
  • Must attend and successfully complete required Colorado State Park training (may include exposure to OC spray).
  • Must have or be able to attain valid First Aid and CPR certifications.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and within a team; strong interpersonal communication and customer service skills.
  • Basic computer skills (MS Office Suite, Google App Suite).
  • Preference may be given to applicants with or working towards a Natural Resources degree or similar education.
  • Must maintain a safe driving record and valid driver license where required by the DNR-120 Fleet and Driving Standards Administrative Directive.
Fleet Vehicle Policy

Motor Vehicle Records (MVRs) will be reviewed for workers who have a State fleet vehicle, are required to operate a vehicle as part of the position, or use a pool vehicle.

Physical Requirements

This position will involve activities requiring use of arms and legs, climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials. Ability to perceive color differences and hear verbal/radio communications.
