Advanced Practice Nurse / Physician Assistant – Trinidad, Colorado

- Perform physical examinations, obtain detailed histories, assess and treat acute and chronic medical problems
- Prescribe medications from the CDOC formulary using applicable CDOC guidelines and policies
- Conduct sick call, emergency treatment or chronic care clinic as assigned
- Make rounds in infirmary or skilled nursing care setting
- Order laboratory tests, venipuncture, and other diagnostic testing pertinent to medical care of offenders
- Perform minor medical procedures: suturing lacerations, incision and drainage of abscesses, excision of cysts, application of splints and casts, removal of toenails
- Provide emergency medical coverage, basic life support and lifesaving procedures for emergencies such as cardiac arrest, respiratory arrest, massive hemorrhage
- Assist in pre‑ and post‑operative care, offender health record reviews, laboratory, x‑ray and EKG result review
- Follow CDOC clinical services standards and protocols, collaborate with other health professionals, participate in committees, develop policies and training, provide offender education
- Work shifts, on‑call, weekends, evenings, nights and holidays as required
Minimum Qualifications
- Current, valid licensure as an Advanced Practice Nurse / Nurse Practitioner from the Colorado Board of Nursing or current, valid licensure as a Physician Assistant from the Colorado Medical Board.
Special Qualifications
- Full prescriptive authority (RXN) as issued by the State of Colorado (DORA) and DEA.
- Self‑control and ability to work in stressful, potentially violent situations
- Remain alert, emotionally stable, mentally resilient under pressure
- Provide direct patient care to offenders and maintain professionalism in complex environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication, and ability to read and comprehend English
- Collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
- Create accessible documents following plain language guidelines
