We service customers at 50+ nationwide service centers and provide 24/7 in-house call-center support, scheduled maintenance, and unscheduled services to fleets anywhere, anytime.

JOB SUMMARY:

To support growth of the company, Fleet Services by Cox Automotive is hiring a Mobile Trailer Technician II to join our team. This is a dedicated on-site position (not for emergency roadside repairs). The Mobile Trailer Technician II performs certified DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light repairs, and other duties on trailers and related equipment at the customer site. The role may involve more advanced repairs under the supervision of a Sr Mobile Trailer Technician or higher.

A successful Mobile Trailer Technician II complies with all company policies and achieves high-level performance metrics.

Responsibilities
  • Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on refrigeration equipment (e.g., Thermo King, Carrier) and other trailer components; conduct DOT inspections on Freightliner and Mack trucks and trailers.
  • Diagnose and repair/replace compressors, coils, electrical components, and related systems.
  • Follow safe operating practices and procedures; manage parts inventory and equipment on the company-issued service truck.
  • Maintain and operate the company-issued service vehicle; conduct safety checks and pre-/post-trip inspections.
  • Apply formal training and on-the-job experience to perform duties; communicate technical information effectively.
  • Interact with clients to assess needs, provide information or assistance, resolve issues, and meet expectations.
  • Manage multiple tasks, prioritize work, and allocate time efficiently.
  • Act with integrity, maintain confidentiality, and adhere to ethical and professional standards.
  • Perform scheduled PMs, DOT inspections, and follow-up repairs on trailers and equipment in mobile/field settings.
  • Respond to call-center dispatched unscheduled service requests.
  • Use hand tools, precision instruments, trailer tools, welding equipment, and jacks as required.
  • Document work according to company standards; upload photos of work performed, parts used, and findings for Repair Orders using company devices and TRAIT application.
  • Accurately complete DOT forms and other documentation promptly.
  • Maintain a high level of productivity and work within standard repair times where possible.
  • Obtain parts from approved vendors as needed for repairs.
  • Communicate with management and support teams to obtain approvals on repair estimates and purchase orders.
  • Ensure all work complies with safety, health, environmental policies, and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
  • Complete all required safety training and maintain good working relationships with customers and vendors.
  • Perform minor adjustments and repairs on trailers and related systems (brakes, air lines, pumps, engines, liftgates, brake chambers, etc.).
  • Remain up to date on safety protocols and procedures; diagnose, adjust, and repair trailer equipment and systems.
  • Assist Mobile Trailer Technician I with diagnostics as needed.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma/GED and 3 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of degree/certification and experience.
  • At least 3 years of experience with refrigerated equipment.
  • Own a set of hand tools required to perform duties.
  • Obtain ASE T8 (PMI) certification within 18 months.
  • Obtain 608/609 certification within 18 months.
  • Pass a DOT-regulated pre-employment background screening and DOT physical; must comply with FMCSA regulations.
  • Valid DOT medical card or be able to obtain one; if the medical card has four or fewer months remaining, a DOT physical will be required.
  • Age 21 or older due to interstate operating authority requirements; valid driver’s license and ability to maintain a Driver Qualification File.
