Job Summary

Rutgers University Correctional Healthcare seeks a licensed practical nurse for the New Jersey State Prison in Trenton, NJ. The primary purpose of this position is to provide skilled patient care in accordance with professional nursing standards within a correctional environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Participate in data collection related to patients’ status and needs.
• Provide input to registered nurse to incorporate into the plan of care.
• Provide direct patient care within scope of practice to ensure implementation of the plan of care.
• Inform and instruct patients/significant others on patient’s health/illness state and plan of care.
• Assist patient/significant other in preparation for discharge and health maintenance at home.
• Document all aspects of patient care.

Qualifications

• Licensed practical nurse in the State of New Jersey.
• CPR certification.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Own vehicle or alternative means of transportation to travel between sites.

Preferred Qualifications

• At least six (6) months of experience in an acute hospital setting.

Physical Demands

Must be able to perform CPR for at least 10 minutes and assist in lifting and rotating patients who are unable to ambulate (up to 50 pounds).

Special Conditions

Must be approved by the Department of Corrections (DOC) and adhere to all DOC requirements.

Salary and Benefits

Grade: 215. Minimum salary: $32,520; mid‑range: $33,020; maximum: $34,010. Benefits include medical, dental, prescription drug coverage, paid vacation, holidays, retirement plans, educational benefits, life insurance, and employee discount programs.

Work Arrangement

Full‑time, 40 hours per week, night shift, full onsite.
